I’ve previously left a good review for this place but my opinion has changed a lot since. I always come here with my boyfriend and we always spend a bit of money each time just with the 2 of us. We ALWAYS tip too. Whatever their service fee is, we never have an issue. Tonight my food wasn’t the same as usual, I didn’t complain I simply just stopped eating it. I wasn’t going to say anything but it was the waitress who came over and offered to replace the dish. She was lovely and so was Dale at this point. The chef also came out and apologised which we really appreciated. We told him the food is always amazing it was only tonight and not a big deal at all. When we received our receipt from Dale, I asked kindly if the service fee could be removed. Just as the meal was below the usual standard and the replacement meal I likely won’t be eating. I paid £20 for the main just for myself including the sauce which I was charged an extra £2 for.
This is where my problem starts, Dale’s reaction was absolutely uncalled for. His mood changed instantly, he was so rude, words can’t even describe. As soon as I paid with the contactless on my phone he stormed off with the card machine. I literally could never ever go back there again as it’s so awkward and so unprofessional. I can’t believe he acted the way he did, I’m even speechless now. He’s usually so lovely but this was just a completely different person, a horrible person. I would never ever go back there again and I won’t be recommending this restaurant again to any of my friends like I always do. Food is lovely but if there’s a time when there is any issues it should be okay to raise them. Not even just for us but so the chefs know what to consider for the future. The chef was receptive of this and acknowledged it and apologised and couldn’t be kinder and more understanding to us. He was lovely! But unfortunately it seemed that Dale thought it still deserved a tip, but I consider a tip to be a bonus for a better than expected experience which unfortunately on this occasion it wasn’t. I really am being more than reasonable and like I’ve said, I’ve been here on so many occasions in a short period of time and I’ve always tipped. I’m so shocked after tonight’s experience. I wish I knew what the lady was called who served us - she was so lovely and always is. I will never ever...
Read moreI took my girlfriend for a birthday dinner to this restaurant. I choose this restaurant because of great reviews. We were both looking forward to this dinner and it was meant to be a special treat.
It started out ok, but when we have asked to recommend us a wine the waitress seemed to not know much about wine and couldn’t recommend us anything.
The starters were very nice and we have enjoyed them. Then, when it came to the main event, we have waited for our meal for about an hour after we have finished eating starters. The waiters didn’t come to our table to explain why it took so long or to apologize. We were watching people that came in after us, eating their starters and mains, and leaving before our main arrived. When they finally brought the main to our table, it came without two sides. We immediately asked about it, and we were assured that it is on its way. Yet, we weren’t brought any sides. We needed to ask a different waitress about it for the second time and then she brought one of the sides. We had to ask again for the second side (this side was not ordered separately, but it comes as the part of the dish - it was skinny fries that comes with the lobster). The skinny fries were a disappointment - not only that we had to ask about it three times, but also, it was a mix of chips and burnt skinny fries. They obviously forgot about this side and gave us the scraps.
The size of the lobster was underwhelming for the price, which was £60. Also, the amount of monkfish was smaller than expected for a ~£30 meal.
The deserts were delicious. My girlfriend had baklava cheesecake and she described it as one of the best desserts she has ever had. I had pistachio tiramisu and it was really good too.
For the amount of the money that we have spent, we would have liked the better service. Just to be clear, the staff were all very polite and nice. Maybe the issues were caused by lack of training or bad communication with the kitchen.
Even though we have enjoyed the food, we would not come back again. The audacity to add a 10% service charge to the bill after all...
Read moreAs a seafood lover, I was thrilled to try out Cargo Seafood in Liverpool, hoping for a delightful culinary experience based on the amazing reviews. Sadly, my expectations were dashed as I encountered slow service, a bland seafood risotto, and a tasteless whole seabass.
Upon arrival, the restaurant's ambience appeared inviting, but the excitement was short-lived. The service was undeniably slow, even with four tables only. We were left waiting for prolonged periods, from the time we requested a menu to the moment our meals finally reached our table.
When the seafood risotto was served, I couldn't help but feel crestfallen. The dish was not only bland, but it also had an unappetizing excess of water, making it reminiscent of a bowl of soggy rice. To add insult to injury, it seemed like steamed seafood was merely sprinkled on top as an afterthought, rather than being an integral part of the dish. This lackluster presentation and poor execution made for a forgettable risotto experience.
The whole seabass, which I had eagerly anticipated, proved to be another disappointment. The dish lacked the rich, savory flavors one would expect from such a delicacy. The fish was bland, underseasoned, and served without any complementary side dishes to enhance its taste. It was disheartening to see such a beautiful fish reduced to a flavorless entree.
In summary, Cargo Seafood failed to deliver on its promise of an exceptional dining experience. The slow service and unsatisfactory dishes made for a lunch that I would rather forget. Regrettably, I cannot recommend this restaurant to fellow seafood enthusiasts. In a city with a rich culinary scene, one should anchor their...
