I'm going to caveat this upfront by saying Gaucho is known for its steak and my wife and I didn't order steak. So hopefully that is a more positive experience. The positives: the staff were great. Very friendly and welcoming and the building is a beautiful setting for a restaurant. Unfortunately that's where the positives end. Although it was a beautiful setting, we were in early-ish so the only atmosphere was created by 2 loud, steaming couples behind us who appeared to be having a great time (not a complaint just an observation). The walkway to the toilets was absolutely stinking. To be fair this could be due to the building as the toilets themselves were bad. Then the food. It is possibly the worst food for value that I've had. I ordered the truffle burrata which was good albeit not very "truffley" but I was relatively happy with it. Especially when looking across at my wife single, lonely empanada on a massive plate with just a small dish of sauce to keep it company. Probably more fitting for the snack menu they had rather than a starter. Then the mains arrived. My wife went with the pasta which she described as 'erm... It's alright' as she pushed a bit of soggy sage to one side of her plate. I wasn't quite hungry enough for a steak so opted for the a burger. This turned out to be a terrible decision as what arrived was possibly the world's saddest burger, looking lost, sitting on a massive plate with a side bowl of fries. Looking back of some of the reviews the burgers looked ok but this was what can only be described as pathetic. It was bland tasting and resembled something from McDonald's signature range with KFC fries. That's ok if you want to spend £5-10 not £86 (£20 on just the burger!). At least you get a bit of lettuce on a McDonald's burger. Hopefully the steaks are better, or that this is a one off bad experience (which can happen) but it was very, very expensive for the standard of food. I have been massively fortunate to eat in a range of places from McDonald's service station through to Michelin restaurants, therefore I feel justified in saying it is the worst quality for value meal I've had. I wouldn't recommend it or go back, personally.

I found Gaucho to be a little frustrating as an overall experience. The location as a former bank has an old school grandeur with sky high ceilings and marble columns. There is an oval bar which has been well integrated into the location. However (and here begins a theme) not enough attention has been paid to sound, so that the music is a drone and conversation echoes loudly. Perhaps unavoidable in such a space. Totally avoidable though is having slightly too small tables. In a group of four this meant much rearranging and having dishes removed almost as they landed to make room. It might sound fussy but it's hard to get around. Maybe ask to be seated at one of the square tables rather than our round one. The service was similar. Very knowledgeable and competent. They felt understaffed though which meant service was a little title rushed and haphazard we had the wrong sides delivered. Sorted quickly and with a smile. So my frustration is with the management team not the staff. The food sadly was still patchy in terms of deliciousness, which when paying this much isn't good enough. The prawns were plump and juicy but the rest of the dish lacked flavour The steak thankfully was tasty and all were cooked as ordered. Each steak comes with a side and a sauce. You'll need at least one other side though unless you're content with a rather sad plate. The sides though were not all great. The chips with thyme salt were really good. The mash was not, indistinguishable from readymade supermarket fare. The spinach was my favourite, not creamy as it so often is but with a deep savoury punch of flavour. The oyster mushrooms were unremarkable and totally lacking the citrus punch promised. The truffle Mac and cheese had a good truffle taste, but overcooked pasta and a sauce neither creamy or cheesy was very disappointing. The broccoli was also a little underdone. To end, I would come back here, but only to try the Sunday roast which was I think £26. I am also keen to try it's nearby rival Hawksmoor to compare

The good, the bad, and the ugly..... I've dined in several Gaucho restaurants across the UK and this franchise left me with very mixed feelings. The food was on the whole very enjoyable and what you would expect from Gaucho. We all had steaks and everyone enjoyed them. The restaurant itself is located in a very grand and historic building in the city centre close to the main business district of Liverpool. It's certainly a stunning building and has a striking feel inside. However, the restaurant is so big that it felt very empty despite several diners being there already when we arrived. Our server was very polite and friendly but she appeared to be the only person really doing anything and on several occasions we had to ask for simple things such as the drinks menu. The food itself was served efficiently but at nearly £200 and a 12.5% service charge we were left feeling disappointed. Having paid the bill we were then informed that we would be receiving a small cake to mark my wife's birthday... Whilst this may have been a nice touch it was only offered post payment as we were ready to leave. This was not only frustrating but it also felt a bit cheeky. I.e. Now you've paid we will offer you the cake! So in summary, it's a real shame as I really wanted to like this Gaucho but I don't think I can justify returning anything soon especially given the quality of the competition at this price point in the city.

I don't really know where to start because I'm not a fan of posting mixed reviews of places in my home time but here we go.

Went Sat 14th for a combined, day early celebration of father's day and my son's 19th. Great first impressions because the interior space has real impact.

We were sat down and immediately noticed the bar was piled (and I mean piled) with empty bottles and glasses. Not a great vibe when you're sat 10 feet away facing it particularly as at least 3 times glasses were smashed.

The person who was looking after us was brilliant. Really friendly and if we could review her alone she'd definitely get a 5 star review. Also a massive positive was the selection of Argentinian Malbecs on offer. That's it though.

The starters were ok at best. The 3 2 pence sized scallops I had were well seasoned, but overcooked and overpriced for their tiny size.

But it's a steak restaurant right so I just wrote off the starters mentally.

Steaks arrived (as well as more glasses and empties on the bar). My lad was ok with his 400g fillet and my youngest appreciated his burger but described it as 'mid' and 'not as good as the Marksies ones'. My wife's fillet was also ok.

They faired the best though. I ordered the churrasco de lomo. The presentation was that of someone who currently hates their job. The 'spiral' cut looked it was performed with a couple of spoons and the steak was dumped unceremoniously onto the centre of the plate. The cook was inconsistent probably down to how it was cut. Some bits rare, some bits medium-well.

I had it with a side of the garlic mushrooms. They were sent back immediately (I never send stuff back, I'm way to English to send stuff back) because they were cold. I'm mean cold, not tepid, cold! Our lovely server swapped them immediately.

The steak was oily and tasted of nothing. To my shame it's the first time I've used the salt and pepper in a restaurant. Meat quality was great, no doubt, but all 4 of us agreed this was no better than stuff we do at home which is presented with love, care and pride.

I'm not going to go on because frankly it's depressing me writing this but for a dining experience a little shy of £450 for 4 it really was poor.

I just beg if anyone one from Gaucho reads this, clean the damn bar of the empties. It was like a glimpse into my lads student kitchen.

Oh, DJ played some...

Attended last night, expectations not met at all after looking online and seeing they claim to be “liverpools best steakhouse”, I rarely leave bad reviews and normally focus on the good. However, reviewing last nights experience proves very difficult to find the good, arrived on time for private room booking and was asked to sit in the bar as the room wasn’t ready, 12 of us squeezed around the small tables at the bar for 30 minutes sipping our £11-£14 mocktails, (juice) I opted for the only lager on draught which was £5.50 but only half pint!!, the 6 people who ordered cocktails had them all handed out incorrectly so we had to spend 10 minutes working out which ones had alcohol and which ones didn’t, after being seated in our “private dining room” we where told there would be no music as it was broken, also the heating was off so it was very cold. After an hours wait we where finally able to place our ordered from the set menu (which wasn’t great) I opted for a Rump steak and my wife being a vegetarian opted for the only thing available, an aubergine, another’s hours wait and the food eventually arrived, I asked for my steak medium, it was totally raw and cold in the middle, (seems to be the common thing looking at other reviews), a friend next to me asked for his chicken to be looked at as it was raw in the middle, they confirmed this and apologised and offered a free drink!, (again, raw chicken seems to be the theme in previous reviews, very dangerous) my partners meal didn’t include chips! Just an almost raw and hard aubergine on the plate, another’s hours wait later and our desserts arrived, which were actually good! But we where all tired as it was 11pm by then and everyone just wanted to go home, we asked for our bill which included a £160 service charge, overall the only great thing was our server, she was great, done everything she could for us, overall experience tho, highly overpriced, steak and chicken not cooked properly and lacked any flavour which was a shock, I won’t be going back, stick with my usual place, “meet” around the corner, last night was a 40th birthday celebration but after over 3 hours waiting for 3 courses, slightly tainted, won’t be returning and would urge caution to anybody wanting to go and see what it’s all...

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Gaucho Liverpool, and I must say, it was an extraordinary experience. This renowned steakhouse not only exceeded my expectations but also left an indelible impression with its impeccable service, mouthwatering steaks, and exquisite selection of Malbec wines.

Upon entering the restaurant, I was greeted warmly by the attentive staff, who guided me to my table with genuine hospitality. The ambiance was sophisticated, yet inviting, creating the perfect setting for a memorable dining experience. The attention to detail in the decor and lighting further enhanced the overall atmosphere.

Now, let’s talk about the star of the show—the steaks. Gaucho Liverpool truly understands the art of preparing a perfect steak. The menu offers a variety of cuts, each meticulously cooked to perfection. From the tender and juicy ribeye to the flavorful and succulent sirloin, every bite was a delight for my taste buds. The steaks were expertly seasoned, grilled to the desired level of doneness, and served with a delectable assortment of sauces and sides.

To complement the exceptional steaks, Gaucho Liverpool boasts an impressive selection of Malbec wines. The staff’s expertise in recommending the perfect wine to pair with your meal is commendable. I thoroughly enjoyed exploring the different flavors and aromas of the Malbecs, which added an extra layer of richness and complexity to the dining experience.

What truly sets Gaucho Liverpool apart is the outstanding service. The staff’s knowledge, attentiveness, and genuine passion for providing an exceptional dining experience were evident throughout the evening. They were always available to answer questions, offer suggestions, and ensure that every aspect of the meal was flawless.

In conclusion, Gaucho Liverpool is a haven for steak enthusiasts and wine connoisseurs alike. The combination of exceptional steaks and an extensive Malbec selection, accompanied by impeccable service, makes it a must-visit destination. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or simply looking for an extraordinary culinary adventure, Gaucho Liverpool will undoubtedly leave you with lasting memories of indulgence and...
