Easy to find on Liverpool’s iconic Mathew Street, directly opposite the legendary Cavern Club, The Cavern Restaurant could easily chuck up a few photos of the Fab Four and trade on location and hungry fans passing by, believing in Yesterday. The Cavern Club itself, a cornerstone of Liverpool’s music scene, opened its doors on January 16, 1957, before becoming synonymous with the rock and roll movement. It famously hosted The Beatles in their formative years, solidifying its place in music history. We visited the Cavern Club for a drink first, and saw a nostalgic band dressed in ties and vests played music of the historic period, as patrons wandered around looking at the walls and merchandise while having a drink and imagining what it must have been like back when it was what it was. Like many other fans probably think of doing, I figured after that we might as well head across the street to the Cavern Restaurant afterwards because it was right there. We’d had a long day of following the history of the Beatles and it seemed like a fitting end to the day. When we entered the restaurant, it was buzzing with patrons who, like us, were drawn by the magnetic pull of the Beatles lore of Liverpool. I had low expectations, thinking the restaurant would trade purely on their theme and proximity to the famous location opposite. I thought I’d be eating Ringo Rolls and Sgt Pepper’s Steaks. However, the culinary experience well and truly exceeded my expectations. The menu featured dishes that were both hearty and refined. The kitchen, helmed by a skilled and dedicated father and son team, showcased a commitment to quality and creativity. Their professionalism and passion was evident in every bite. The wait staff and bar staff were friendly and professional. The waitstaff navigated the bustling environment well. Conversations flowed easily between neighboring tables, united by a shared appreciation for The Beatles. Lots of us were visiting from all around the world, and enjoying the vibrant ambiance of the restaurant. Everyone we spoke (and by the end of many drinks we spoke to quite a few), and they all commented how impressed they were with their meals, so I’m confident to recommend it. In a locale that could easily rely on its historical significance to draw crowds, The Cavern Restaurant impressed us by delivering a dining experience that stands on its own merit. Anyone seeking to indulge in Liverpool’s rich cultural tapestry while enjoying a quality meal in a warm setting would do well to book in here.

Ok I think we made a mistake by just picking a spot next to the Beatles museum tour we had just done. The inside was cute, I'll give them that, but the food and service was just okay. We ordered guac & chips as an appetizer. Which was a bad idea considering we're Mexican haha... the guac was meh, and the cheese sauce and salsa were strange. Anyway, we were eating it slowly because it wasn't super great but our food was taking long to come out. Nobody had checked on us since ordering. Suddenly i thought, maybe they're waiting for us to finish the appetizer. I pushed the plate aside and sure enough an employee came over to ask if we were ready for the main plate. Haha gosh, we would have stopped eating them long before if i knew they were waiting for us. Most places would just bring your food and let you decide if you want to keep eating your appetizers or mix it in with your main plate. Anyway, our fish was kind of lame. The crisp was ok, although not as light and fluffy as others we tried, the meat didn't have much flavor, and it felt kind of dry. The fries were the same, kind of dry in the middle. We were hungry and we ate it anyway. Then nobody was coming to our table to bill us. And there were only a couple other table with customers. Some of the employees were standing around chatting with each other. I finally went up to one of them to ask if we could pay and she finally brought the card machine to our table. We ended up spending more than an hour in there and about $70 for two fish and chips, appetizer, and a drink. Wouldn't recommend.

The place that started it all! But before you head into the cavern or have a selfie with John Lennon or Cilla Black, have a look at the bricks and all the famous people ( no pun intended) at all the famous bands and singers who have played here on Matthew St. You need, must have to visit the Cavern Restaurant for its amazing food, cocktails, decor and truly amazing staff and what's best still an amazing bowl of Liverpool local scouse dish! I had my friend from Yorkshire have it for the first time and he loved it. I Wass brought up on it and to this day is certainly one of the finest dishes you can get. Highly recommend that you book as it was busy but once inside the fun begins! The old fashioned cocktail was amazing followed by a filling plate of scouse and then dessert. The price was also very very good just under £50 for 2. Book in advance so you won't be disappointed and then get ready to drink and dance the night away on Matthew St and in the Cavern too.

Our entire two-week trip to the UK was centered around one very special night—my husband’s 50th birthday dinner, and we knew from three years ago exactly where we wanted to celebrate it: The Cavern Club in Liverpool. Since we had a large group joining us from all over, we chose The Cavern Club Restaurant instead of the original club—and it was the perfect choice.

From the very beginning, communication was seamless. Marcos, the GM, was amazing—friendly, responsive, and so helpful, even with the 7-hour time difference between Liverpool and California. He made booking a party of 23 people feel completely manageable, sent over the menu in advance so we could pre-select dishes, and was always quick to answer my many questions.

When I arrived early to set up, the staff had everything ready to go—tables arranged, room for our party favors, and a printout of all our orders. Having worked in the restaurant industry, I know how challenging big groups can be, but the Cavern Club team handled it flawlessly.

We had two amazing servers and a fantastic bartender (and I’m still annoyed I didn’t get their names!), but all three were absolutely wonderful—attentive, kind, and so on top of everything. No one ever had an empty drink, and everyone in our group commented on how great the service was.

And now—the food and drinks. WOW. The cocktails were well-balanced and delicious, the beer selection was spot on, and the food blew everyone away. Coming from California, we’re used to touristy spots that overcharge and underdeliver—this was the total opposite. Every dish was flavorful, beautifully prepared, and generously portioned. There were also plenty of vegetarian and vegan options, which our guests really appreciated.

This dinner was so much more than a meal—it was the highlight of our trip, and honestly, it exceeded every expectation. We felt celebrated, cared for, and completely at home, all in a setting that means so much to my Beatles-loving husband.

If you’re planning a special night in Liverpool—whether you’re a local or traveling across the world—The Cavern Club Restaurant is it. I can’t recommend it enough.

Thank you to Marcos and the entire team for making this night one we’ll...

The soup of the day (carrot and coriander I think) was lovely. The bread nice and fresh... My wife's starter of garlic bread was delicious too...

My wife said the burger wasn't the greatest, lacked flavour, was too salty and a bit dry and having looked at it, I'm glad I didn't order it as it looked very average and the patty was very tight which is never a good sign!...

My main of fish and chips was mainly fine and the batter excellent... There were nowhere near enough mushy peas (about a table spoon)... Maybe they could swap some chips for more peas which would give the dish much more balance!...

My wife's cheesecake was okay, nothing special but the crumb on the plate was very nice and quite unique... My brownies were awful... Dryer than Gandhi's flip-flops and for the first time ever, I left some dessert... I ate it until the ice cream ran out and left the rest as it was like eating cardboard... For me to leave a pudding, it must be bad... I've never done that ever in my life as i will basically normally eat anything sweet...

The staff were all lovely but missed out on attentiveness at times and forgot to bring something when asked... Maybe if they spent less time flirting with each other then they would be a little more alert... One barman kept dropping glasses and plates lol... He even dropped his cutlery when going for his dinner so I'm guessing he was new and was nervous... He kept us amused though and hopefully he keeps his job haha as he seemed like a nice lad....

Overall for the money, it wasn't bad... I expected it to be like a tourist trap but it really isn't that far off being a great place to eat, they just need to work on some...
