Having lived in London 33 years, I knew this restaurant existed, always wanted to visit, now I regret not coming sooner. There are thousands of trendy, go to places in this city, most are all style over substance. This place gives a you a warm Cypriot/Greek hug, rarely found these days. No frills or fanciness, they know what they are doing and do it well. It is like stepping back in time but that is not a bad thing. It makes you feel like and old friend you met in a taverna in Ayia Napa. The food is as Greek/Cypriot as you can get. Generous, well cooked and delicious. The Dolmades are divine but the Kleftiko is the star, a very slow cooked large piece of lamb cooked till it completely falls off the bone.Rice is cooked in stock with tiny slivers of pasta. To be honest it is all of a very high standard. The prices are extremely reasonable. This is not art on a plate. You will need a hefty appetite, leaving full, satisfied with a warm glow, The music will stay in your head and adds to the atmosphere. I brought a friend for his birthday on Thursday lunch, decided to return yesterday with another friend, both loved it.The staff are welcoming, lovely and a joy. This place is just what it says on the tin. If any one criticizes they have never eaten great food in a Greek/Cypriot restaurant before..

Happened to be in the area looking for something nice to pop in for late dinner. I was pleasantly surprised to see a very pretty interior, simple but interesting menu and good choice of dishes for heavy meat eaters like me and vegetarians. We ordered meat Mezze and it didn’t disappoint, decent size and freshly cooked dishes were not just pretty but also juicy delicious. All you typical hot/cold starters like olives & bread, beans, taramasalata, humous, tzatziki, lamb kofta, halumi, potatoes with herbs and many more. Full table of little plates of delights. For people like me enjoying little nibbles of everything it was a real pleasure. And then the grilled meat arrived …. Oh man …succulent lamb, chicken and lamb shish, fresh salads. Sadly didn’t take the pic of the grill plate but will place a little video in my IG (iamgerrelle) shortly 😉. And trust me it was yummy. Highly recommend the place, great pricing, excellent performance and service, and the food simply outstanding. You will enjoy 😉

A wonderful Greek neighbourhood restaurant. We always have the hot and cold mezze to start, around a dozen dishes for £11 something a head. A real Tarama, hummus, tzatziki, the yummy Gigantes butter beans in a tomato sauce, smoked loin, keftedes, potato salad and beetroot salad, all scooped up by pitta bread. My niece chose the kleftiko, an enormous lamb shank gently falling off the bone, my choice for next time! She allowed me a taste, moist, tender and perfect. With roast potatoes! I went for my default, moussaka- a real homemade towering mass of meat, aubergine, bechamel and potato, packed with flavour. Fun atmosphere, everyone having a good time, attentive good humoured front of house team, a bit cheeky! It's great to sit outside here on those rare dry summer evenings we treasure, in what feels like a quiet backwater just a few steps from the craziness that is Camden High Street. Stuffing yourself with good homemade Greek food.

I visited Karavas yesterday for the first time and it sure won't be the last. I'm Greek and my friend is Cypriot, so we were looking for authentic greek/cypriot cuisine that we so much miss from back home. We were 10 minutes late due to traffic and when we called to let them know, they assured us our table was kept for us. There is a standard starter treat (very rare in England!) with olives, pickles and pita bread to warm up your appetite. We ordered 2 starter plates and they brought us 2 more as a treat (!) "so we could get to taste more mezedes". Very good tastes, I loved the tabouli salad. Service was top notch and very friendly. I thankfully followed Dionisis' recommendation on my main course and went with the Kleftiko, even though I'm not a lamb fan. It was a m a z i n g, so tender, mouth watering and full of homely tastes! Don't miss it when you go! My friend went for the mixed grill but asked for the original Cypriot version, and they were more than happy to acommodate her request and tweak the menu dish. We were both so stuffed that we didn't finish our meals - very good portions! - so we got leftover bags with us. Dionisis and Marios, both Cypriots, and Giorgos, a Greek Cretan from Rethymno, were all very attentive, polite and stopped by our table during the evening to chat and joke with us, making us feel at home. The place was fully packed by 9:30pm and most of the customers were not Greek/Cypriot. Better book a table! For 2 starters on top of the free standard one (we were treated to 2 more), 2 main big meat dishes, 2 glasses of wine, 3 glasses of Zivania and 2 coffees, we paid 68GBP, including the service charge! - and we got our leftover bags. Good value for money and VERY good food. I strongly recommend it! Very important: It's great to find some proper service in the UK, a generally...

Horrendous owner. We had booked 4 months in advance for my son's baptism lunch and a week before, we rang to confirm. The owner immediately acted shifty and it was clear he had double booked, but instead of apologising he became incredibly defensive and aggressive. My husband went to him the next day and he was hostile and rude. He cancelled the reservation at less than a week's notice and told us to 'check our attitude.' This was for my son's baptism lunch for 60 people. I am absolutely appalled at his behaviour. We have come years before when the restaurant was under different ownership and the Greek owners then were lovely and accommodating. This man is rude, aggressive and has zero customer skills. The food might be OK but there are far superior Greek mezze places in London where the food is better AND the service is friendly.

Edit: Just to note the owner's response said that they don't tolerate bad language. Quite amusing given that he was the obnoxious rude one. Never did we once swear, he spoke over us and didn't respond to any of our reasonable questions about our baptism lunch booking. He clearly didn't want to admit fault on his part so tried to make it out like we had made a mistake and that we were being rude which is what he is doing in his response. Incredibly unprofessional...
