Branded Beckenham — Restaurant in London

We were surprised by this restaurant. It was actually a third choice pick (behind a Turkish restaurant that was closed due to holiday, and a Tapas bar with no menu to download from their website). Firstly, a well attended venue yet we'd managed to book only 2 hours before. Lively environment, comfortable seating, attractive and solid wooden tables (i.e. not wobbly 🙂 - private joke!) The waiting staff were very efficient and the orders came flying out of the kitchen. We didn't have to wait long at all for our orders. Two of us opted for salt & pepper calamari starters. This was absolutely the most succulent and tender calamari I've ever eaten anywhere! One of us had the prawns starter which was very tasty. The mains went down well, one steak meal, one lamb cutlets, one very hearty bowl of veggie tagliatelle. Side orders of perfectly prepared stem broccoli, quite an extraordinary plate of carefully battered (and fat) onion rings. My compatriots also enjoyed their dessert choices, one balaclava and one cheesecake. It's actually been a pleasure reminiscing this outing by writing a review as I normally of late only review restaurant visits when abroad on holiday. (Think I might do more home reviews from now on). Wish I had taken some pics of our plates, and also noted the name of our main server who was very friendly, patient and courteous. All I can say he was tall, slim and I think eastern European and thoroughly deserved his tip. But the whole team were great! Honestly I would have given this place 4-5/5 if it wasn't for the 'afters'. We had asked for a hot custard instead of ice cream for one of the desserts. After having received the 'hot sticky toffee pudding' we were wondering well I'm sorry this isn't hot, nor is it sticky. It seemed to be some sort of basic cake-like-item. Although this was sub par the custard was worse. It had split and tasted very watery. We had made a complaint when asking for the bill and we were met with rudeness saying that we had already had the custard and pudding why not raise the concern before. The issue with this was whilst we were fine to just get a refund or even acknowledgement that there was an issue with the dessert the waiter didn't handle the situation very clearly. He said he'd take the dessert off but when we paid that wasn't the case. We were close to walking out and it was only £3 but it was the premise more than anything. I'm sorry we won't be returning back, the starters and mains were decent but we felt a sour taste after the desert. Unfortunately I was really disappointed with my meal here, which is why I held off reviewing. I have had meals here before which were amazing! So much so I brought my friends here from afar. My most recent meal was disappointing! I specifically asked if my food was spicy, told it wasn't but it was. My steak turned up with hair (complete with bud) on it, which was dismissed as its windy, things are blown around??? Steak was replaced though I was extremely paranoid throughout, my partner's meal, along with all the sides, was left to go cold whilst my meal was being cooked. My steak was also really tough in comparison to the ribeye my partner chose, even when quite cold! Came here for a steak treat given previous meals being so good. Was left completely disappointed and it really felt unworthy, definitely no longer the 'go to' place for a good steak. I'm even questioning the 3 stars, am justifying them by...
