I visited this place after discovering bahn mi in Vietnam (Saigon). Though I didn't have high expectations of this place to be as good as bahn mi in Vietnam, I gotta admit this place does things better than over there, for example this place makes the bread fresh on the premise (unlike some street hawkers in busy streets in Saigon). And are able to keep ingredients refrigerated and not get warmed up in the open heat, alot of that is due to this being a premise as opposed to a street stall. Though traditionally, this is meant to be street food ? I had the chicken curry one, not sure why I picked this but loved it none the less. The bread wasn't overly crispy on the outside, and was airy/fluffy on the inside (just the way I prefer it) as opposed to French baguettes where the outside has to be crunchy and hard. I understand this is a new business as implied by the number of reviews and I can see this place specialises in bahn mi as opposed to other Vietnamese restaurants that do noodles/pho. I have to admit, the price can be steep, as mine cost close enough to £10 (at time of writing). Would I come here again ? Probably not as it's not in a convenient location, would I recommend this place...
Read moreI’m a frequent customer here, and for good reason. I usually order for take-away,but have sat in more recently, and either way, the food is exceptional. Everything is fresh, the flavours work so well together and the rolls… I can’t even begin to describe them. They’ve got the perfect crunch on the outside yet are so fluffy inside, and homemade from store! I ordered The Buddha (vegan) and it’s quite literally on my mind all the time when I’m not eating one. There’s also a dedicated vegan menu which is great to have whether you’re a full time vegan or just cutting down your meat intake- they don’t lack in flavour.
The team are so lovely and friendly, attentive and polite, and happy to help out with anything from order alterations to allergy advice to offering taster items that are not yet on the menu.
I couldn’t fault this place if I tried, and I’m super picky with food and where I eat. Everything is priced very reasonably too, and all the bahn mi’s also have the option to come as a rice bowl.
If you’re in the area this place is a MUST, and if you’re a little further away I promise it’s...
Read moreEveryone is really lovely and friendly. The bread is freshly baked and very good. Unfortunately I found the tofu banh mi to be underwhelming. I had fantastic veggie banh mi in Vietnam and this does not come close. The main flavour was coconut and turmeric. In Vietnam the bread was slightly more chewy and crispy, there were several different sauces that went into it, lots of chilli, masses of fresh vegetables and herbs (they packed it with tofu, carrot, Vietnamese coriander, radish, cucumber, green onion, crispy onion, pickled cucumber, mushroom and also delicious peanuts)- all this had was two slices of cucumber, some mild chilli and a bit of coriander (not even Vietnamese coriander). Tofu needs lots of flavour, and also with soft bun and soft tofu you need texture from lots of vegetables and salads. You also need a balance of sweet, spicy, salty - this had just one very mild flavour note. Disappointing. I think this place is geared towards bland...
