On the 3rd April I booked the fish and chip afternoon tea for my mums birthday present on 29th April. Arrived at the time booked (14:30) on 29th April to be greeted by a man asking if we had booked drinks or food. I overheard him saying to others it was a 40 minute wait for food, however as we had already pre booked the afternoon tea and was not told about this wait I assumed it did not necessarily apply to us. We were seated and served our tea/coffee and asked if we was having the classic or fish and chip afternoon tea (even though this was already on my booking along with a note saying it was my mums birthday). After about half an hour the same gentleman approached us asking if we would like a complimentary drink as we had been waiting for some time, or if we would like to cancel the order. We accepted the drink and both enjoyed a cocktail. Half an hour later (15:30 at this time) we still hadn’t been served the food to our tea. Baring in mind it is cakes, scones and a few chips and fish goujons you would not expect this to take an hour to put together, baring in mind others were eating their food having arrived after us. When we asked again where the food had got to we were assure it would be 5 minutes. 10 minutes passed (1 hour and 10 minutes) after arriving at the venue and we still were waiting our food. At this point we chose to leave the venue we informed the gentleman, whose reply was ‘fair enough’ and we left. As we left the venue we noticed others eating full portions of fish and chips who arrived at the bar after us. This is totally unacceptable customer service, baring in mind I had pre booked this so the kitchen should have been made aware of our booking. The cocktails were only a small gesture in the grand scheme of things. It was clear that the staff did not care about losing custom by the attitude they gave. I was extremely disappointed and it ruined my mums birthday. I would...
Read moreI met a friend here who I hadn’t seen for ages and we were really looking forward to a lovely lunch and some g&t’s. The opposite of what we got. We were greeted by a nice smiley waitress with red hair who only gave us menus for drinks even though we booked to eat? I had to ask for the food menu, I wish I had just stuck to drinks to be fair, although they were beyond expensive… I ordered the ‘Cob Salad’ nicely described as ‘sweet potato, kale, beetroot , avocado toasted seeds, coconut bacon and lemon dressing’… it was quite honestly the WORST salad I’ve ever eaten. Firstly it was £20?!!!!! There was no dressing on the salad, bits of cold broccoli in, no dressing and it was the most tasteless “salad” I’ve ever had.
I had two mouthfuls and I told the waitress it was tasteless and it needed some dressing… she can back with a bottle of vinegar, not vinaigrette, vinegar you put on chips and olive oil?… I asked for the ‘lemon dressing’ so she returned finally with the dressing. I drizzled over my salad but that made no difference to the taste. I had another two mouthfuls and told the waitress that I couldn’t eat it as it tasted awful. She apologised. Not offering a substitute meal? Anyway, when it came to the bill I had to fight to get my money back. At first it was 20% off but I wasn’t prepared to pay anything for the dish. I was then told by the manager that the waitress told him that I ate the salad!? I asked him to go to the kitchen to look at my plate which had just been taken away. He returned and told me I could have the meal taken off the bill.
I couldn’t believe that I had to fight so hard to not pay for an awful, tasteless salad that I hardly touched!
I used to be in hospitality for 6 years and I’ve never attempted to question a customer about their complaint. It was embarrassing for...

We had the spring rolls as a starter, and they were nothing like any rolls I've had in Chinese, Thai, or Vietnamese restaurants. Great flavors in both the rolls and dipping sauce.
For main course, I had the Africa Burger that was quite good. It had very good flavor and texture, and the toppings were great. My wife had a steak (don't remember which one), and it was very tender and flavorful. She ordered it "medium" and said that if she had known that it would be so thin, she would have ordered "medium rare". It was maybe a cm think.
Sides were creamy spinach, which was in the top 5 I've had, and mashed potatoes. The potatoes pleased my wife, but I would have liked some additional butter on them.
Desert was a trio of ice creams. The mint chip is not actually chips of mint candy, but what in the US we would call "mint chocolate chip". It's a very popular flavor, but not what we were looking for. There was also a chocolate "maltese" (or something like that), which was sort of a chocolate chip and had good flavor. The star was the honeycomb.
To drink, my wife had a "dirty martini". We couldn't taste the gin for the olive juice. She asked for it "very dirty", so we can't really complain. I had a "Dark and Stormy", which was made slightly differently than in Bermuda, but...
