£50, Get Fed or Die Trying

My experience at Bermondsey Garden on Saturday, 8th February, was far from impressive. Upon arrival, despite being the only ones waiting, we weren’t invited to sit and were left standing awkwardly. When we did eventually get a table, it was dirty and remained uncleared for over ten minutes.

Menus weren’t provided, and after a frustrating 15–20 minutes, we finally managed to place an order. The wait for food was even worse—nearly an hour. When it did arrive, the sausages were reminiscent of a council dinner, with a taste and texture that suggested the lowest quality meat imaginable.

The staff showed little enthusiasm, and the overall service was sluggish and indifferent. If there’s a redeeming factor, it was the company of a lovely lady, but that’s hardly something the restaurant can take credit for.

Bermondsey Garden left me feeling like I’d been mugged of £50 for a truly underwhelming meal. Perhaps that should be the title of a new British rap album: £50, Get Fed...

Fantastic Italian food at the edge of Bermondsey with a great ambiance! Would highly recommend the pizzas and mixed boards.

The food tastes incredible and has an Authentic Napolitan taste as their chef Luigi is from Naples. Surprisingly, my favourite dish was the pizza but specifically the dough as it was a fermented sourdough but had a great crunch and flavour. I would come back just for the pizza. The mixed board was also great and I really enjoyed the aubergine. I didn’t get to try the tiramisu but will be coming back to try that and the panninis!

This garden cafe has a great ambiance and feels more like a little wine bar with a cosy and warm interior.

The team running the restaurant are also lovely and were really friendly and...

Couldn’t agree more with the review below. Ordered at 11am on a Sunday and took us over 50 minutes to receive two breakfasts. Staff don’t seem to have any drive to serve customers efficiently and seemed like they were trying to look busy doing random tasks rather than helping the 1 chef do orders or clearing empty tables. They forgot basic things so had to be prompted by us - like bringing cutlery (our food had already arrived) and taking the lid off a bottle which required a bottle opener. The food was good and I couldn’t fault that element but I unfortunately won’t be returning or recommending because of the service. A real shame as it has...

Bit of a mixed experience. Service was generally good. and the atmosphere was pleasant. We ordered a mushroom Benedict, which was delicious, however, the French toast was served positively burnt. The attempt to cover it by flipping the burnt bit down and using icing sugar didn’t quite succeed in covering up the taste of burnt carbon! While paying the bill, I discretely showed them the burnt toast and they said “yea we need to change our pans” :) This is a good spot overall, and accidents happen in the kitchen, but you shouldn’t let them get plated.
