Nice looking pub at face value in a popular spot but absolutely NOT worth your time or money!! Tables are very dirty, never wiped down, glasses and plates not cleared on literally every single table, you have to ask to have the table wiped and for things to be cleared by the very unwilling staff. I ordered a pork roast - potatoes were absolutely not roast potatoes, they were undercooked at best, accompanied by a stupid amount of carrots with literally 4 green beans. The cold dry pork was sliced very thinly, no crackling at all but soggy and chewy fat all over it. The Yorkshire was undercooked and wet - I couldn’t even eat it. The gravy came cold in a paper cup. It was £19 (!!!!) Seriously the worst roast I have ever had, a total and utter rip off with dirty cutlery to eat with and no napkins offered. To also make this pub not worth visiting is the fact the ladies bathroom is FILTHY and had no toilet paper in all three cubicles, water all over the floor and one blocked sink leaving only one to wash your hands. Myself and my three friends had asked the bar staff on separate occasions if more toilet paper could please be put into the bathroom as we had all gone and been caught short. They said yes. It didn’t happen. So I asked again when I went to the bar on my way to the toilet next, along with another lady who was asking. My request was met with hostility by the young and extremely rude staff. With 4 of them standing there with hands on hips saying no, they had no more toilet paper and wouldn’t be getting more to put in there. Because ‘you guys keep using the bathroom and all the paper’ So ‘YOU GUYS’ - actual paying customers, on a busy Sunday afternoon, can’t even use the bathroom as a basic amenity with toilet paper!! Especially for women, that is absolutely not acceptable. I was told in no uncertain terms that they weren’t going to do anything about it and ‘why don’t you use napkins’ - whereas they knew there was no paper in there so THEY, the employees, should have replaced it with napkins themselves or found another solution rather than us ladies going in there, doing our business, finding there is nothing to wipe with then being met by utterly disrespectful staff who didn’t give a toss. What a disgrace this pub is and what a terrible bunch of staff working there and food as disgusting as the toilets. I certainly will not be going back there, neither will my friends and if you’re reading this, I would recommend that you don’t either.

🚇 Hoxton 🍺 £6.55 Lost Lager ❤️ A Brewdog pub on historic Columbia Road. . The Birdcage is located on Columbia Road and is perched at the end of a picturesque row of Victorian shops. This road is famous for the Sunday flower market which is definitely worth a visit. Getting here is easy, Hoxton overground station is just a five minute walk away. . This pub is very easy on the eye, the beautiful glazed emerald green tiles add a touch of Victorian glamour to this building. . The bar area is laid out in and L shape and the pub does feels quite spacious. The tall windows bathe this pub in light making the ambience bright and airy. The elegant servery is clad in solid wood, the columns are a nice feature but slightly hinder being served. At the back left side is a traditional fireplace with an old Joanna to the right. . This is a Brewdog pub so the beer choice is full of their in house brews on draft, in cans and bottles. I had a pint of Lost Lager which I’ve had before, it’s an ok pint but expensive considering its an own brand brew. If you’re hungry there is a full menu of pub classics, wings, burgers and roasts are available on a Sunday. Fish and Chips costs £15 which is average price for London. . I arrived around 3pm on a Saturday and it was fairly busy and there was a nice buzz around the place. If you’re visiting the flower market on a Sunday be warned it can get absolutely rammed in here. . The Birdcage is undoubtedly a very attractive pub and will appeal to a younger audience. The price point makes this an expensive place to have a pint. Worth a visit as part of a crawl of the area. . ℹ️ Info correct on visiting 22/10/22

my friend and i went to birdcage after a stroll around columbia road flower market 🌷 i made sure to book in advance as google said it tends to be quite busy. i had the (half) chicken and my friend had the beef. we were both really pleased with our orders! the roast boasts unlimited gravy and yorkshire puddings and at £18.95 you really can’t complain! the puddings and roasties were some of the best i’ve ever had and the chicken was so well cooked with crispy skin. however the veggies were just okay. the portions were massive as well, leaving more than enough to take home. they also have 2-4-1 cocktails for £12.95 everyday from 4-7pm. our server initially seemed a bit standoffish but proceeded to be quite lovely so i’ll chalk it up to stress as it was really busy. overall we were really pleased with our meal and will definitely be back when we’re in the area! i’d definitely recommend if you’re planning on having a meal after visiting the market :)

Seems they have a kitchen staffing issue at the moment - I'd check before ordering.

The catalogue of issues we faced that spoiled the night for everyone:

We booked online and was offered the option of a birthday party for anyone who missed their birthday through lockdown. Such a lovely gesture we thought, and we noted down the details of my husband’s 2 missed birthdays in the booking. We were told by the manager that this offer had finished at the end of August, but they could offer the free pint and meal but no cake as a goodwill gesture. Ordered drinks - some weren't available. The lemonade from the tap for my daughter was just soda as the tap wasn't working properly. We exchanged it for bottled lemonade. Ordered food, 3 from the specials, 3 from the menu. More than 40 mins later no food - when we queried it we were told it would be 4 minutes. 10 mins later it arrived. One meal (mine) was missing. It was one of 3 plates of the KFC Dirty Fries with kimchi etc - how could one of them get forgotten? It took another 30 minutes for my plate to eventually arrive by which time everyone else had finished their food and I was completely starving. 4 of the meals had missing components. Scampi, Chips and mushy peas had no peas. All 3 of the KFC Dirty Fries came without the kimchi, one of our favourites and certainly the reason why my daughter had ordered it. Mine also came without the siracha mayo. The Scampi and Chips were lukewarm, clearly they had been sitting around.

The food was taken off the bill - not exactly surprising considering how rubbish it was. Our evening was a reunion with my husband's parents, we had travelled up from Kent and they came from Wales and we were excited to find a dog friendly pub that looked like it had good food too. Such a huge disappointment.

We've been to Brewdog pubs all over the UK and Europe and have had lovely times, this was the worst experience we've had. Looking at reviews on google it doesn't look like a one off. There are clearly kitchen staffing issues that need to be resolved. Reduce the menu or take food off completely if you can't...
