This review is based on an interaction with a member of staff and is not meant to be a critique of the atmosphere of this pub, which is very nice.
We headed there after a rehearsal on Friday evening, and we sat at the only available table, leaving our equipment next to it, it turned out to be an area that had to be accessible for the member of staff in question. Instead of asking us to remove our belongings from the area they started abruptly pushing very valuable equipment out of the way, carelessly.
I said they could just ask, we would move everything for them but they started having a go at me because they needed to access the area and finished by saying that maybe I could just leave.
I understand Friday is a busy day and that it can be stressful to navigate such a small space when crowded, I can also see that maybe I did not come across as gently as I intended to, but it still felt like an inappropriate response.
I downed my drink and left as suggested.
I think everyone else stayed and had a nice time
Maybe a 'keep clear' sign could avoid this kind of situation in the future, as the drawers in question are not very visible.
My apologies to the member of staff in question if my words came across condescendingly. I'm sure we both share an unpleasant feeling about our conversation.
EDIT: This rating went from 2/5 to 1/5 based on the reply from the owner.
Some of the equipment you literally kicked out of the way fell and could have been damaged had I not been ready to prevent it, hence my reaction. I don't work in your pub, and I don't know where stuff belongs, as obvious as it might seem to you. Yes, It would be nice if you asked before you move any personal belongings (that seems pretty obvious to me). Me and my ego will be...
Read moreSo having travelled from Reading to meet family and celebrate father's day with my Dad, and having already reserved a table for 6 people, we arrive to learn that they have sold out of roasts (A Sunday roast is what we intended to have) without calling to inform us and allowing us to make different plans. Furthermore to "apologise", they chuck two small bags of crisps on the table between 6 of us (instead of offering free drinks) and then send us to their sister pub with the promise that they have enough roasts. One wasted uber car trip later (with some of us walking to save money), we arrive at the next place and are told that they don't have the roasts we were promised. Appalling customer service. Don't bother booking tables there, you're not...
Read moreEven though I knew it was closed due to being a regular, and you advertised the closed days over this Christmas and new year period being posted on Instagram, plus the staff needing a well deserved break at the beginning of the year, I was FURIOUS that it was closed when I passed it on the way to another local bar this evening.
Furious because it’s SO GOOD and I miss it.
Staff are great and chatty (if it’s a slow night), food is banging on Sunday, dogs are so very welcome, it’s close to other places to eat and drink too. The karaoke night is just brilliant, plus it’s LGBTQIA friendly/encouraged.
Don’t turn up on a day it’s closed and blame your rubbish night not in the pub and give it ONE STAR.
