While my friends and I were purchasing coffee, the staff member exhibited impatience and rudeness. I had just placed my order and hadn't had a chance to pay before the staff member walked away to start the coffee machine. Upon her return, I attempted to hand her the money in notes, but she dismissively and rudely stated, "No, can't do it, ask your friend," accompanied by a disdainful look and forcefully pressing the buttons to stop the machine.
Throughout the interaction, I felt uncomfortable and angered. I am unsure if this treatment is related to my Chinese ethnicity, as I've heard of other instances where Chinese individuals have experienced similar rudeness, as evident in Google Maps reviews. Such behavior is entirely contrary to the standards expected in the service industry.
At the very least, the staff member should have maintained respect and explained the situation politely, given that it was my first visit. I did not intend to pay in cash, and the lack of clarification at the entrance regarding cash payments was not my fault. I am deeply disappointed and fail to comprehend why a cafe under the student union exhibits such a poor service attitude.
Feeling disrespected has left me quite upset, to the point where I am contemplating seeking psychological counseling. My friends also share my dissatisfaction with the staff's behavior, and we have decided not to patronize the school's cafes...

When I was asked what kind of milk I wanted, I replied regular milk and she immediately sneered and said "we never say that", then she didn't say anything and didn't give any explanation, waiting at the counter with her arms crossed to see how I would react. I said "dairy milk" and she said "that's what I want to hear".
Another Chinese student, who I read about on douyin, had an even worse situation. When she first came to the UK she didn't understand that there was a choice of milk and asked the staff if she could explain, and the staff suddenly got very angry and said to her, "How can you even not know about milk, don't waste my time!" But before she arrived, this staff had been chatting to a colleague and there weren't any customers in the queue behind her.
The other Student Union cafe, which is equally good in price and quality, is just on the other side of the student centre, has nice staff. So I don't think I will be going back...
