Happy Saturday! An unexciting pizza express looking place with a bit of a dull menu but at least there’s an outside space.
I’ve just come back from travelling south east Asia and had a stop over in London to “do London as a tourist”. For my final day in London before going to the boring countryside of Essex, I headed to the kings road with my sister to shop and eat. We’ve been wandering around for a while but also not too long and were slightly crashing. My sister suggests heading to bluebird cafe - I’ve never been but she assures me she likes it even though it’s a bit overrated. Im not fancying anything on the menu particularly except the truffle mash potatoes. I order this with a mimosa, some bread and butter and a cappuccino. Honestly at this point the main thing I want is a cappuccino. The drinks come, the food comes. Oh wait where is my cappuccino. Okay they will surely bring it out soon? I try my mash potatoes, that I was rather excited for at this point, and unfortunately they are completely cold. Which is weird because the dish is warm. This is out of my comfort zone but I really didn’t want cold mash so I asked for it to be reheated (was quite proud of myself). I’m also still waiting for my cappuccino and say “and a cappuccino would be great”. I’ve been thinking about this phrase for a while now. I feel bad about how this came out and may have come across rude. I really didn’t mean it to be - I’m sorry. But she wasn’t wrong, a cappuccino would’ve been great. They come back with my reheated mash potatoes (it’s on them this time) and unfortunately the dish is a little hotter but the mash potato is still cold. I cut my losses at this point and sip my mimosa and eat my cold mash. Then It starts to rain - this isn’t the cafes fault obviously but it did ruin the vibe a little bit. We move to these stools under a bit of cover and I make a joke about my previous comment about how the cappuccino would be nice. I turn around and look down at where my mash and mimosa is. A cappuccino is there! Magic cappuccino. The waiter had put it down probably while I was making that joke and he probably heard - again I’m so sorry. So now I have my mash, my coffee and my mimosa - woohoo!! Then it starts CHUCKING IT DOWN and hailing! Kind of mental hahaha I wolf down my mash and down my mimosa and bring my cappuccino (which is in fact great - probably tasted better because I had to wait idk - thank you?) into the inside part of the cafe. We then are a bit miserable and need to head back to our hotel to grab our bags and head home. It takes a whileeee to pay and get out of there. But it’s okay I had some food and drink so it’s not a 1 star. Also it’s easy to get a cab right out the front. Wouldn’t go again honestly unless invited to sample some of their WARM...
Read moreDo not go here - the atmosphere and service are awful, and if you are victim of a crime in their venue, you are on your own.
Unfortunately I have to give Bluebird one star because of how they handled our group being targeted by thieves in their venue. It was a birthday, and we had booked a table for drinks. The service was abhorrent. The reception staff were rarely there and rude, and it took 30minutes to be served for a drink despite there being around 10 people at the bar and 3-4 servers.
Within 30mins of arriving, a phone and a birthday card with a gift voucher were taken by two men who were walking around, scouting the venue and then bumped into us/distracted us and immediately after taking our properly, left the venue.
We alerted reception and the bar staff immediately who were zero help on the night, didn't look for hand ins or help us look, there is no security in the restaurant/bar itself, only the two bouncers on the door who were not paying attention.
Following the evening, each of us called the venue 6-7 times and emailed asking whether anything had been handed in, but several questions about the CCTV available on site. They don't answer the phone, so the only way to speak to someone is by going via head office. I chased the email multiple times before getting a response which had no information within it other than nothing was handed in, even to confirm whether they had working CCTV inside the venue or not. I wrote back to complain about the lack of help and no response at all.
The policeman assigned to our case had the same experience - it took several calls, then the person on the phone at first refused to believe it was a police officer, then said the CCTV was practically useless as it is so blurry that nothing can be seen, and asked the police officer to ring back in a few days to speak to a Manager. What is the point of CCTV if it doesn't show anything, and why was Bluebird uncooperative even with the police?
At no point were Bluebird staff helpful, empathetic, or proactive, and instead they made it as difficult as possible at every opportunity, despite it being their responsibility for the health and safety of customers on their site. Due to having no security in place, the thieves will likely return and target more customers, yet Bluebird do not care whatsoever. The policeman even said he would email to suggest they increase their security because it was woefully low for a bar/restaurant in London.
There is nothing good about this venue, I will not return and will warn off everyone I know...

The service at Bluebird is commendable, with staff members providing attentive and friendly service that enhances the dining experience. The menu features a range of modern European dishes, with an emphasis on fresh, seasonal ingredients. During my visit, I found the drinks to be particularly noteworthy. The cocktail menu is extensive, featuring a variety of innovative and classic options. Each drink was expertly crafted, showcasing a balance of flavors that complemented the meal perfectly.
However, the evening took an unexpected turn when we noticed a mouse running through the dining area. This was quite disconcerting and understandably impacted our overall experience. Despite the otherwise excellent service and tasty food, this incident prompted us to leave the restaurant quickly. It is worth noting that such occurrences, while rare, can significantly affect a dining experience.
Bluebird's location in Chelsea adds to its allure. The area is known for its upscale shops, galleries, and historic sites, making it a perfect destination for those looking to explore London’s more refined side. In conclusion, Bluebird offers a memorable dining experience with its stylish setting, good service, and tasty food and drinks. However, the presence of a mouse during our visit was a significant drawback. I hope this issue was an isolated incident and has been addressed, as Bluebird has the potential to be a standout dining...
