Boom Battle Bar at The O2 — Restaurant in London

Had an incredible Cocktail making experience with George (Big daddy G) and his female manager present. We went as a group and we really enjoyed it and would rate that experience 10/10. What ruined the experience for us was the extreme unprofessionalism of the 2 employees based on reception (Boy who had veneers and a girl) working on 21/11/24 - didn’t get there names. After finishing the cocktail experience we had a karoke booked and we were told by George to go to reception to inform them so they can show us/take us in. I went there and met the 2 members of staff whose response to me was laughing. I asked them for access to the Karoke as I had it booked and they burst out laughing. I was confused but left them to laugh and dispute over who will let me in as neither of them wanted to do it and neither of them wanted to do Karoke. I stood there for about 5 minutes whilst they questioned if it was a prank me coming to them and then laughing between themselves. I finally got fed up and asked what is going on and they told me to go back to George and ask him to do it. I was in disbelief and firmly said if I walk back and George sends me back here I will not come back. I walked back on my own informed George who seemed appalled and said he will talk to them. They then walked past me giggling and a lovely short black lady opened the door for us and showed us around. None of the two at reception helped me. By then it was 8.40pm - 40 minutes after our session should have started. Realistically I should dispute for a refund after spending over £500 and will not recommend returning to that branch unless I am sure George and his manager are working or atleast staff who are competent. Our experience at Boom Battle Bar was quite disappointing. While the games were okay overall, they definitely had their issues. The darts for the dartboard were so blunt that they kept bouncing back, which was frustrating and made the game less enjoyable. The crazy golf was also a letdown. The course was overly difficult, and we found ourselves waiting around for ages as people were taking up to 20 swings just to finish one hole. It really took away from the fun, and the pacing of the games was completely off because of this.

The real problem, however, was the service charge situation. We were seated just 10 steps away from the bar, and a waiter came over and asked if we wanted to order drinks. We thought nothing of it until the bill came, and we noticed an extra £5 added to the total. When we asked what the charge was for, the waitress informed us it was a service fee. Now, bear in mind, the bar was practically empty, and we were close enough to get our own drinks without any issue. We felt blindsided by the charge, especially since it was never mentioned upfront.

We asked for a refund on the service charge, as we were not informed about it beforehand. The response we got was, “People don’t give tips anymore, so we automatically add a service fee.” This felt pretty unfair, as tipping should be optional, not something sneakily added without any prior communication. After having to argue our point, they eventually gave us a drink voucher, but it left a bad taste in our mouths. I don’t mind paying a service fee when it’s deserved or optional, but in this case, it was neither. The experience felt more like a cash grab than genuine service.

My bad review comes from the bad service at the end. As a result, I made a reservation today Monday for Karaoke with my friend and at the same time I paid for some shots, the guy who served us was very kind and told me we could even order drinks, that was at 10 pm which was when we had made the reservation and where I mentioned to him that I had also paid for the 6-shot pack. Well, in the end, after an hour, my friend and I wanted to order some tequila shots to finish the night and the girl with blonde curly hair came super angry saying that we ordered shots of reposado tequila when the bar was already closed and that when I arrived at 10 pm at night she told us it was closed and that she gave us the 6 shots as an apology for the bar being closed. Which was a lie because when I arrived I asked if it was closed because I saw her closing with another girl with short hair and she told me no. We feel really bad because I told her the guy didn't say anything to us, but she says he did tell me when he didn't. She also told me they didn't have reposado tequila and only had blanco tequila and no salt or lime. She's really mad at us. And that's even though we pressed the "order drinks" button more than 15 minutes ago and no one came. We work in the hospitality industry and we can understand to a certain extent, but she was so rude to us that she even left the karaoke door open in the end. I think you can see it on the cameras. The place is definitely nice, but the experience of a spectacular night we were having ended up not being pleasant at all because of this girl.
