Cafe Macarong Review: A Delightful Yet Slightly Sweet Experience
A Warm and Welcoming Atmosphere This was not our first visit to Cafe Macarong, and it's always a pleasure to return to its cozy and inviting ambiance. The cafe has a charm that has captivated me since my pre-COVID visits.
A Sweet Tooth's Delight with a Suggestion Today, we indulged in the visually stunning Matcha Rollcake. It was a treat for the eyes and the palate, delicately crafted with finesse. However, for a truly harmonious taste experience, we would suggest a slight reduction in the sweetness of the cream filling.
Bubble Tea: A Sweet Treat with Room for Adjustment The Bubble Tea with tapioca and lychee tea was a refreshing beverage, but the lychee tea base leaned a bit too far towards the sweet side. A touch less sweetness would allow the delicate lychee flavor to shine through.
Chicken Katsu Salad: A Culinary Masterpiece The Katsu Chicken Salad was an absolute triumph, a symphony of textures, flavors, and colors that left us speechless. The harmony was impeccable! If we were to nitpick, we might suggest slightly thicker slices of chicken, but that's merely a minor detail.
Aromatic Dried Fruit Tea: A Memory-Inducing Delight We also savored an incredibly fragrant dried fruit tea with a delightful tartness. Unfortunately, the name eludes us at the moment – a three-word title with two repetitions, a memory puzzle we're determined to solve. But one thing is certain: the aroma was truly captivating!
A Suggestion for Improved Accuracy We would like to gently suggest that the cafe management review its operating hours. The menu states a closing time of 9 pm, and Google also reflects this information for Saturdays. However, our waitress informed us that the cafe closes at 8:30 pm on Saturdays. Ensuring accurate information across all platforms will help your visitors better plan their time at your cozy and delectable establishment.
A Grateful Heart and a Promise to Return Thank you for the delightful experience, Cafe Macarong. Your dedication to culinary excellence is evident in every dish and beverage. We look forward to returning soon to savor more of...

Granted, I don't generally even like them, and so I rarely pick any up. But these may have changed my mind. The flavours are interesting, the filling is very generous, they are not too sweet, and are crispy without being dried out, and they are beautiful to look at. They hit every checkbox.
But even cookies aside, this place is wonderful.
From the kind woman working, to the snacks, to the coffee, to the atmosphere, I just really enjoyed my experience here.
The place is very warm (in coziness feeling, not overly hot in temperature). Loads of seating, and everyone there was relaxed and happy. It looked to be a lot of students. A few on laptops, one with a book, but mostly just friends hanging out over coffee. A really pleasant vibe that is absent in so many places now.
We grabbed some tea and coffee, cake, macarons, and Korean chicken wings. The wings were better than expected. I hadn't even wanted anything savory but they were delicious. Tea and coffee was generous, and cappuccino was really smooth. 👌
The chocolate cake was okay. I wouldn't say it was anything extraordinary. Basic chocolate cake, no surprises. Again, macarons were AMAZING. We actually ordered more after tasting the first two.
I could have sat there much longer and enjoyed even more of the Korean food, but we had obligations elsewhere.
What a lovely little café. A real gem...
Read moreLove the environment, very cosy and calming so it’s a great place to study or to catch up with friends! The cappuccino was really nice, but took over 20 minutes to come 😅 The bibimbap was really nicely done, and a good size for £11.50. Definitely recommend!
UPDATED I used to love this place. I was here every few days before the refurbishment, always happy to support and recommend it to friends. Unfortunately, since it’s reopened under new management, the atmosphere has completely changed — and not for the better.
I understand that businesses have policies, but what I don’t understand is being singled out for them. We were asked to buy more drinks after a short time, despite having already purchased — all while watching others sit for much longer without being approached once. Today, I came back hoping it might have just been a one-off. I bought a drink, sat down, and within 45 minutes was being told I needed to buy another — this time for my partner. Strange, since the tables around us seemed to be exempt from this sudden enforcement.
The manager — or whoever it is pacing around and glaring — certainly adds to the warm, unwelcoming energy. Quite the opposite of what this café used to be.
It’s a real shame to see a place with so much potential become somewhere I no longer feel comfortable. I won’t be back, and I certainly won’t be recommending it to...
