Really difficult to write this review as a really mixed bag but maybe unsurprising after reading some of the other reviews. We only had a short time before catching a train and said this on arrival. We were welcomed by some of the best service i have ever received in London, absolutely lovely chap who was very smiley and took extra care of my pregnant wife. He took our orders quickly and effeciently and i was reassured that we wouldnt have time problems. At some point he was replaced by another waitress who seemed nice but didnt really talk to her. The food order seemed to be taking ages so my wife went to pay early so we could leave immediately after eating (and also reiterated we were in a rush). A couple who arrived 15 minutes after us were then served just before us (their order was identical to ours being full english and so ok maybe bacon is done in batches but still this is super annoying, why not serve the people in a rush first? Just felt like they either just didnt care at all or was deliberate) and our food was ready 35 minutes after we arrived. We had 90 seconds to eat before running for our train and was a bit of a nightmare. Food was décent, 3 stars just because of the first waiter, would maybe go again but never ever if i...
Read moreWe were staying at the Travelodge opposite and we'd been wholly underwhelmed by the cold breakfasts, diabolical coffee and watery orange juice there so we checked reviews for establishments nearby to improve on an already disappointing breakfast attempt so far. Cafe Plaka is certainly close by, and the recent reviews appeared promising. Unfortunately that was as good as it got. Cafe Plaka is a cute, pretty, and exceptionally busy little place. It looks great, and all of the tables were taken. We waited for five minutes, as requested by the pleasant staff, and then we were seated. We kept it simple, and both ordered scrambled egg on toast. £4.50 per person for this seemed reasonable for sure. A side of two hash browns, two coffees and a fresh glass of orange juice.
The coffee was good...but...the orange juice we had to ask for four times before that eventually turned up towards the end of the rest of the breakfast, the scrambled eggs were more milk/watery than flavour and that made the toast soggy and unappealing. The two hash browns were the highlight.
Not £25 well...
Read moreWe wanted a decent meal before we caught our train home and we could not have found a better eatery. Being laden with our huge rucksacks we found the Cafe Plaka located just a few minutes from Kings Cross Station so it was very convenient. The proprietor was lovely, seating us at a corner table with room to store our luggage so we didn't feel we were inconveniencing other diners ....which meant we could relax and enjoy our meal. The menu is good with plenty of choice and, considering its very central location, was amazing value for money. We both chose the All Day Breakfast (Ozzy Style) which actually came with toast and CHIPS! Bonus! It was all cooked to perfection and was more than adequate to satisfy our appetites. The tea was the best we had tasted all week and was properly prepared. It certainly pleased us Yorkshire Folk...and we consider ourselves quite the experts when it comes to A Good Brew. If we had to rate this establishment out of 10 we would award it 12 marks! Well done. Our visit...
