Ā Ā Ā Read moreI decided to drop in recently when walking past. I noticed they had a daily / current recommended bean for filter coffee on the board by the door.
Walked up to the counter and was ignored by two guys for a minute. Then I mentioned I saw the filter on the board and there was a moment's confusion. I asked if I could have it via pour over (v60), but they said that coffee was only available as a batch. I guess they meant for the price, but I'd have been happy to pay for that bean on the v60. They didn't seem interested to talk, advise, be flexible or help me at all, so I went with a cup of the batch. I honestly thought for a moment it was a roastery only and not a coffee shop by the way they spoke to me.
The filter coffee was served in a hario style vacuum flask with a cup, I hadn't seen those before (same shape as the glass ones). When I poured the coffee it was very very hot. I personally usually make filter coffee not hotter than 94 degrees, often cooler. This was too hot to drink and upon drinking it was very bitter and burnt tasting to my tastes. I don't claim to be a coffee expert but there was no chance to taste anything over the bitterness. At home I use a kalita wave and I normally get beans from dark arts and girls who grind and can get loads of interesting flavours very easily.
Another annoyance. I sat down at a table. Only about 3 out of ten tables were occupied. Unusual given the Camden location. The tables all had 'no devices' signs on them. This sucks as I was planning to read a book on my tablet with my coffee. I get that cafes don't want laptop users hogging tables, but in that case they should put a time limit rather than dictating how people enjoy their coffee. A girl near me was talking loudly on her phone, which imo is way worse than a laptop user.
Finally, one of the staff members finishing her shift or going on break squeezed through a small gap between my table and the counter rather than use the normal route to exit the store, she's saved a few steps I guess, but yet again just shows they don't think about the customer comfort or experience.
Probably in my top few worst coffee experiences in London.
Normally wouldn't want to write such a long negative view, but the customer experience is awful and the coffee...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWow what a beautiful place just opened on castlehaven road NW1, I donāt have much to say about this place because itās brand spanking new.
But the interior is stunning. It oozes class and sophisticated beauty. I had the pleasure of having lovely cup of coffee and no complaints here. They have a wonderful range of teas and a coffee roasting machine onsite. Take a look at the photographs Iām sure you will agree.
Itās only been open for five days at this point so everything is fresh and clean. Itās still in the process of being set up but I was told they will be serving food in the future.
They have a lovely range of pastryās as you can see by the photos. This place is so close to the madness of Camden market but is a world away when you are sitting inside. At the back they have great outdoor seating, again nice and quit place to chill.
And not far away is the Hawley Arms pub so you can have a nice quiet meeting here then pop into the pub for later. Let me know what you think of this place, I will be updating as they go along to make sure I let you know any future...
