Manager tried to over charge for drinks, then for food.
I and my party of 4 had a horrible experience at your Putney branch on Saturday night (28th July). He had no complaints about the food, service or anything else but there was an issue for the bill. He had been overcharged and too many drinks had been put on our docket. No problem.
We called over a waitress and explained the issue, so she got the manager after telling us it "was not her problem" several times. The manager didn't speak English, but from his body language (and from slightly picking up some of his words due to a few of our party members able to speak a few languages - which from what he said, he wasn't expecting) dismissed it and wouldn't admit fault and continued to try to charge us.
Likely out of frustration that we weren't accepting the extra charges, he begrudgingly removed the mistakenly added beverages. However, the bill total didn't quite look right, and a tip off was when he scurried to the back kitchen when I insisted to double check the bill. Low and behold he had removed the drinks and then ADDED MORE FOOD ITEMS TO MAKE UP THE DIFFERENCE.
I was surprised and when I further inquired about another 'mistake' he said in a condescending / sarcastic tone "oh.... whats wrong now?" (again in Spanish, and unknown to him at that moment someone could understand), which one of our party members asked him directly in his own language to repeat himself, and his response was to cowardly leave for the back kitchen and not to come out until we left.
Eventually we had our bill resolved, paid for and left much earlier than we had anticipated.
Just to surmise, there was no issues with the food or service up until that point, we were having a lovely time and planned to spend the rest of our evening at the bar but we recognized a simple mistake that was unfortunately escalated in a negative manner by both staff and management of the branch, leaving us with a sour and forever negative impression upon your business.
We were so disappointed to be treated so poorly.
We won't be coming again, nor will we be making the mistake to suggesting others to visit either. You have forever lost our...
Read moreMy partner and I attended the 'Free Tapas' night on November 28th, looking forward to a great experience. While the food and the Casa Manolo Limited Edition wine were both excellent, unfortunately, our overall experience was marred by a few issues.
Firstly, I want to acknowledge the quality of the food and wine, which we thoroughly enjoyed. However, we were disappointed by the staff's focus on filming and taking photos of the 'free food' throughout the evening. For much of the night, we found ourselves repeatedly confronted with cameras, often without prior consent. While I don't mind being photographed, the constant intrusion became uncomfortable, especially since this was never mentioned on the event's website.
Additionally, while we were enjoying our meal, we found it difficult to get the staff's attention when we wanted to order more wine. It often took a long time for our requests to be acknowledged. We had to ask for the bill twice and further we waited for an incredibly long time for the server to bring the card reader over. This wasn't because the staff were busy with other customers, but because they were more focused on chatting amongst themselves.
Eventually, we decided to leave our table and pay at the front. When I asked for the service charge to be removed, the server agreed to do so. However, when it came time to process the payment, the server asked me to tap my card without showing me the screen. In hindsight, I should have asked to see the total before authorizing the payment. Unfortunately, it became clear afterwards that the service charge had not been removed, despite the server's assurance.
While we appreciated the food and wine, the overall experience fell short due to the lack of attentiveness...
Read moreVery disappointing experience in every way. I phoned to book the monthly Free Tapas Night for 22 August. Website says book early, spaces are limited. We were the only ones there. The waiter’s English was almost impossible to understand. It was very difficult to communicate.
My dining partner had rushed across town and asked for a glass of ice as we were ushered to a table. We ordered wine, but had no choice of wine so why bring a menu? It was one white or one red. I was planning to order sangria but we were brow beaten into choosing one of the wines. My friend’s ice did not appear so she went to the bar and asked again. The waiter brought a glass of ice but refused to give it to her. He used tongs to drop one ice cube into her drink. More she said, he dropped one more. This one at a time stand-off continued, Basil Faulty style until my friend got the better of the waiter and he left the glass of ice. In hindsight that is the moment we should have walked out.
The tapas was by far the worst I’ve ever had. One dish was vinegared anchovies on top of crisps. Are you kidding me?
We were charged £25 each for our 2 glasses of wine. When I queried the 12.50 price of the wine the waiter said “tapas not free”!
There was no wine on the menu at that price. When I emailed to complain the manager was adamant that it was not a free tapas night, despite the website and even the sandwich board outside the venue stating so. She claimed it was a regular tapas night. There is no such thing on their website and I specifically booked the free tapas night. There is something not right here. Avoid...
