Sunday Lunch at Claridges Restaurant When we visited Claridges Restaurant for sunday lunch last year I was so impressed that I voted it my Top Sunday Lunch Dining Experience in My Personal Food and Drink Awards. Well I can honestly say now that our visit this weekend was even better.
On sunday we entered the hotel through the main entrance and headed to the restaurant. Here we received a fabulous welcome back from all the team before being escorted to our table in the grandeur of the dining room. We settled for a few minutes when manager Will came over to us and after welcoming us back asked if we would like a tour of the kitchen. The kitchen itself was huge and I have to say spotlessly clean. We then made our way into the private dining room for a little chat before returning to our table.
Here we would now be spoiled by the team with their professionalism and excellent friendly service. We started with a drink while we looked at the menu. There was a nice selection of starters , mains and desserts. You start with the Parker House Roll and heavenly Claridges Butter before moving on to your first course.
Starters - We began with the Smoked Salmon accompanied with crème fraiche , cucumber and soda bread. While I opted for the Confit Chicken Terrine with pear chutney and brioche. The terrine was one of the best I’ve had and my wife thought the salmon was delicious.
Mains - For the main course we decided to have the Norfolk Black Leg Chicken with Truffle Stuffing for Two. This came with roast potatoes , cauliflower cheese , a healthy portion of seasonal vegetables and of course the gravy. The chicken was rich but absolutely fantastic and the cauliflower cheese was delicious. They will also offer to bring you more accompaniments if required but I’m pretty sure you won’t and remember there’s desserts to come.
Dessert - There are a selection of four desserts for the table that include the Claridges Chocolate with chocolate mousse , brownie , cocoa nib , caramel and hot chocolate sauce , Baked Lemon Meringue Tart , Sticky Toffee Pudding and a Cheese Course. Having had the chocolate before we started with the cheese before enjoying the lemon meringue and the best sticky toffee pudding ever.
We finished with a coffee and shortbread biscuits to round of a truly fabulous lunch. The food was incredible and the service was absolutely what you’d expect to receive at Claridges. The three courses are priced at £100 but if you might not think that is worth it then please take it from me it is. This a a hearty roast dinner that will be hard to beat anywhere.
Many Thanks to every member of staff for a fantastic dining experience and I’m pretty sure it won’t be to long before we’re joining...
Read moreTitle: A Disappointing Service Experience at the Clairidge Hotel's Restaurant
Rating: ★★☆☆☆
My recent dining experience at the restaurant in the Clairidge Hotel in London was unfortunately marred by consistent and frustrating service issues. From the moment I walked in, it was clear that the service was not up to par, and it only went downhill from there.
To begin with, I was surprised to learn that the restaurant required a credit card to secure a table. While I understand the need for such measures, the fact that I had to wait for a lengthy 18 minutes just to be seated was quite frustrating, especially considering the restaurant's seemingly low occupancy at the time.
Once seated, I found myself waiting for an extended period for someone, anyone, to come to the table. The lack of attention was disheartening, and it made me question the overall attentiveness of the staff. Even when I requested a taste of wine, it arrived with my entree, after an unreasonable delay.
Adding to the disappointment, there was no amuse bouche or bread offered to whet my appetite. These small gestures can greatly enhance the dining experience, and their absence was a letdown.
Perhaps the most surprising and disappointing aspect was having to filet my Dover sole myself, despite the hefty price tag of £75.00 for the dish. It is reasonable to expect that such a task would be performed by the kitchen staff, especially in a restaurant of this caliber.
The service continued to disappoint as I waited an additional 20 minutes for the plates to be cleared. When I finally asked for the check, I was served and asked how everything was. I took the opportunity to explain the various issues I had encountered throughout the meal. In response, the waiter offered me some chocolate as an apology. However, the check arrived as I was leaving, and the chocolate only arrived when I was already at the coat reception area. It felt like an odd and poorly timed attempt at making amends.
To make matters worse, as I was getting my coat, the waiter finally appeared and offered a belated apology. While I appreciated the gesture, it was undeniably too little, too late.
In conclusion, my experience at the restaurant in the Clairidge Hotel was marked by consistent and disappointing service issues. The lack of attention, delays, and overall disorganization left me feeling unappreciated as a customer. While the ambiance and the food itself were satisfactory, the subpar service overshadowed any positive aspects. I hope that the management takes note of these concerns and takes immediate steps to improve the service, as it has the potential to be a truly exceptional dining...
Read moreSunday Lunch at Claridges Restaurant This will go down in history as one of the best Sunday Lunches ever. We know Claridges Hotel very well having stayed here on multiple occasions so when you see that they now serve a Sunday Lunch menu you just hope that it is as good as you think it should be. If you think it’s a bit much to pay £100 for a 3 Course Sunday Lunch then please let me reassure that it was absolutely 100% worth every single penny. This is a Sunday afternoon in pure luxury enjoying a roast like no other you’ve ever experienced before. When we arrived we received the warmest and friendliest of welcome that you expect at Claridges before being escorted through the glorious new restaurant to our table. Once settled we looked around to see that there is a bar at one end and the kitchen at the other. Down the centre are booths with a row of tables either side. There is also a private dining room for larger groups. We started with a Pomello Spritz and Cherry Old Fashioned cocktail while enjoying the Parker House Bread and butter as we looked at the menu. There are a nice selection of starters and mains with (if you have enough room) desserts for the table to finish. Starters - Here we opted for the Marmanade Tomato with ricotta , pine nuts , basil and for myself the Seabass and Crab Fishcake with tartare sauce , wakae seaweed , lemon. Mains - we both decided to have the Roasted Herefordshire Rib of Beef with horseradish purée , yorkshire pudding , gravy along with an abundance of trimmings. These were roast potatoes , glazed carrots , seasonal greens , creamed cabbage and bacon , cauliflower and cheese. Everything was cooked to perfection and we were both in absolute heaven. (this is a very generous sized roast) Dessert - To finish there is a heavenly dessert platter. If you feel this is too much you can choose one of them as an individual dessert which they will price accordingly. But we decided to go for it and wow. First to arrive is the Claridges Chocolate where underneath is chocolate mousse , cocoa nib , brownie , caramel and a hot chocolate sauce. This is accompanied by the baked meringue tart , passion fruit crème brûlée and apple crumble with vanilla ice cream. All I can say is omg this is a dessert lovers dream. We finished with tea and coffee before realising we could still walk and headed home. This is without doubt a Sunday Lunch that I can’t recommend highly enough. The food is amazing , the service is as you would imagine at Claridges , cocktails are delicious so yes this is an all round treat. Many many thanks to all the team and look forward to seeing you...
