I was first struck by how spacious and clean Daly's is - perfect lighting and also not too loud, yet also a cozy festive vibe. Kudos, as that is very hard to pull off this time of year!
Our server was really fantastic - friendly and upbeat and very helpful.
The two things that stood out as not stellar a) The fish and chips was very good, however I think some sort of rock salt reserved for clearly icy roads in the winter was used on the fish. I am not averse to salt, but these large crystals were hard as tiny rocks, which made for precarious bites, but mostly just overwhelming in saltiness. I preserved and finished the fish, but it was a bit worrisome at some points.
b) The sticky toffee pudding had a lovely flavor, but I fear the toffee drizzle was missing! It was more like a dry crumbly sweet date muffin with ice cream than the luxurious lovely soaked with toffee...
Read moreFrustratingly they don't accept children in the evenings but that isn't communicated at all during the table booking process online so didn't find out until we arrived. That being said, they accommodated us anyway which was nice of them.
I had the Pan-Asian broth and honestly it was one of the spiciest things I've ever eaten (admittedly not a big spice person!) so would have been good to have that on the menu as a bit of a warning to be honest.

Read moreWhat a gem of a place. The two ladies behind the bar were absolutely brilliant (I apologise... after a few wines I can't remember your names!!) and they really looked after me. The steak I had was fantastic, and in my opinion quite underpriced for the quality of the dish (even by countryside standards). It was delicious. Gorgeous wine selection behind the bar, and although it was a quiet Monday night, there was a really nice atmosphere. I look forward to coming back...
