Had been told on phone wheelchair transfer seat I booked only meant doing 1 or 2 shallow steps but was more like 5 and although the steps themselves were shallow the rake was quite steep, so even getting up from seat you are pitched forward - worse if in heels or have balance issues. Not an awful lot of legroom with the ordinary seats though for more legroom you can book on the row by fire escape, usual theatre tip up seats.
Had good view of stage from row K aisle stalls and sound levels were excellent - perfect balance between being able to hear performers and music distinctly, no one being drowned out, and not so loud I needed earplugs.
Single disabled parking space outside theatre in Portugal Street, wheelchair entrance around the corner but you need to alert security at Portugal Street entrance so they can go round inside to open it for you. Wheelchair accessible lift down to stalls, operated by staff member so carer had to walk down to meet me at the bottom. If using wheelchair and carer unable to manage 2 floors of stairs you may need to arrive a bit earlier to enable both to use lift separately. Few steps up to stalls entrance once you get down there but there is a little lift staff operate for you if necessary. I believe there are a couple of wheelchair and carer seats right at the back of stalls but once inside the door and past a couple of rows of seats it's the shallow steps on a rake. Staff will park wheelchair for you though not sure if it's just left outside the stalls entrance throughout as that's where I found mine when I came out (might be put elsewhere and brought out at the end, didn't ask but might be an issue for some people if it's not secure or monitored).
Didn't seem to be dedicated Access Coordinator so we moved seats when show ended to sit in vacated seat with more room while the crowds left as didn't feel safe trying to climb raked steps with stick while so many people jostling to get out. Staff were available to work the lifts and take us back out disabled entrance.
The show itself, Everybody's Talking About Jamie, was excellent with really talented performers and team. Usual issue with transfer and wheelchair seats for the end where everyone is standing and clapping so unless you can manage to stand for about 5 minutes, you don't get to see the little set pieces each performer does or final encore number. I saw a little as woman in front was videoing that part on her phone and from my angle I could see some of it on her screen.
Due to road closures we arrived at main entrance as show about to start and as is policy most places had to wait for suitable break to go on. However, the Peacock had the stage on a monitor in stalls bar so we could watch the musical number happening onstage and not miss...
Read moreI saw yesterday this show: The Genesis by the troupe of artists/acrobats/performers called Copenhagen collective. The Peacock they’re is associated with Sadlers Wells, renowned for dance and physical expression in every form that this art might take. The Genesis is unlike anything that has been done before. It is a mixture between dance, acrobatics, capoeira, even kabuki, with innuendos and inspirations that range from winking to Pose, or the ball scenes from Paris is burning, to the raves or techno dance of the clubbing in the 90s, to the circensian art popularised by Cirque du soleil . It’s definitely wrong to categorise what they do, but, it is a compelling show, executed beautifully, aesthetically stunning, performed with precision and incredible technique by every member of the cast. It is an hour long without interval, and it can be described as a series of tableaux that are animated and constantly evolving in mood, physicality, lightning, and the music that redefines the mood and the atmosphere. It is a mesmerising show. It will constantly make you wonder between the feeling of “ wow, if there is any mistake from any member of the ensemble, someone is going to be seriously injured “, and “ how did they manage to do that??!!!!”. It is forbidden to take pics or videos during the performance, but it is unnecessary as this show will stay with you and it’s probably going to be remembered for a very long time ! 2 more days left, I strongly recommend to...
Read moreNow this review is not based on the venue itself. Easy access, good legroom in our row and in particular the seat we had in row Y at the end which had tremendous legroom.
We did however book for a Christmas event “The Snowman” where we decided to leave at the interval. It was poor quality, had additional parts to it (which should be expected when turning a 30 minute animation into a stage show) but the quality of it all was quite poor. Even the children, whom this is aimed at, didn’t seem interested or amazed at any point.
I would say, I felt like it was a wasted journey and money, and would not recommend anyone who loves the original to go anywhere near this show as it will not meet any expectations you may have. The live orchestra playing was the highlight, and if this was a secondary school show, you would understand the missing entertainment. But to pay almost £100 for something worth truly about £10 a ticket is a bit gutting. Please be aware, the performance is not magical or nor will it entertain like the animation did. I couldn’t recommend avoiding this enough.
I can only comment on the first half of this performance as the family left at the interval, unwilling to sit through anymore of this unusual...
