Since we're local to the area, we were excited to try Mr. Dumpling, especially after hearing so many positive reviews on social media. Knowing this location had been taken over by the previous Hot Pot restaurant, we decided to visit as a family of three this afternoon.
When we arrived around 4 PM, the restaurant was very quiet, with only about three tables occupied. Unfortunately, we weren’t greeted by the waitress — we simply mentioned we were a party of three and were seated without so much as a smile. We were briefly told how to order our food, but the interaction felt cold and unwelcoming.
Interestingly, shortly after our food arrived, the entire staff sat down to have their meal. We ordered the Braised Beef, which comes in a broth, and needed extra napkins due to splashes — but no one checked on us, so we ended up taking napkins from another table.
Throughout our meal, the waitress never returned to see if everything was okay. When the next dish was brought out, it was placed on the table without a word. No "here's your food" or "is everything alright?" — just silence and a distinct lack of hospitality. It genuinely felt like we had walked into her living room uninvited.
The food itself was tasty and felt authentically prepared, but the service was shockingly poor. If you decide to visit, don’t expect warmth or friendly service — more of a "why are you here?" vibe.
We did'nt bother finishing our dumplings. We took it to go cause i had enough of her stinky attitude.
To top it off, we were charged an extra £7, seemingly as a service fee, despite placing our own order via QR code. If that was the case, we would have requested to have it removed.
Overall, it’s a shame because the food was nice, but the experience was overshadowed by inattentive and...
Read moreI could only describe this as being 'okay' at best. We were a party of 2 and both ordered the braised beef noodle soup. The soup itself was a really generous portion but it wasn't the best and lacked intense flavour. The noodles were really good though, but the beef was a bit hit or miss. The service was probably the poorest part - you enter and are told that you can just order through the qr code, fine to do. We ordered the soups and dumplings but about 5 minutes later were told that they were out of dumplings, so we just had the soup as we didn't like the alternatives. There was a decent selection though. There wasn't an option for tap water on the orders so you would have to ask for that. None of the staff really asked if we enjoyed anything or asked if we needed anything, it just felt a bit distant. You are then charged more than 10% service charge when the service is basically non existent besides bringing your food to the table? The restaurant itself was really modern and pretty and there was a good selection to order on the menu too. Would be good if they had allergens on...
