Eat Tokyo in Holborn is a popular spot for authentic Japanese cuisine in the heart of London. Known for its extensive menu and affordable prices, it’s a go-to destination for sushi lovers, ramen enthusiasts, and anyone craving traditional Japanese flavors. This bustling restaurant offers a casual dining experience that’s perfect for both quick lunches and more leisurely dinners with friends or family.
The menu at Eat Tokyo is impressively broad, with a wide range of sushi, sashimi, donburi, and noodle dishes. Each dish is carefully crafted, and the freshness of the ingredients is evident in every bite. The sushi, in particular, is a standout, with generous portions and beautifully prepared fish that rivals some of the more upscale sushi spots in the city. Their sushi rolls and nigiri come in a variety of options, from the classic salmon and tuna to more creative rolls that add a twist to traditional flavors. Additionally, their bento boxes are a great way to sample a little of everything, offering a well-balanced meal that includes sushi, tempura, and other classic Japanese bites.
Ramen and udon lovers will also find plenty to enjoy. The ramen is rich and flavorful, with a broth that’s simmered to perfection and paired with tender noodles and a choice of toppings. Whether you go for the spicy miso or the classic tonkotsu, each bowl is satisfying and hearty, perfect for colder days. The udon dishes are equally delightful, featuring thick, chewy noodles in a comforting broth that brings out the umami flavors beautifully.
Beyond the food, the ambiance at Eat Tokyo is vibrant and bustling, reflecting its popularity. The interior is simple and straightforward, but it works well for the restaurant’s casual style. There’s a strong sense of authenticity here, which makes you feel like you’re stepping into a local eatery in Tokyo. The open kitchen is a nice touch, allowing diners to watch the chefs at work and adding to the lively atmosphere. Service is prompt and efficient, though it can get quite busy during peak hours, so it’s worth booking a table in advance if you’re visiting during lunch or dinner rush.
One of the best things about Eat Tokyo is its value for money. For the quality and portion sizes offered, the prices are very reasonable, making it accessible to both students and professionals in the area. It’s rare to find Japanese restaurants in central London that combine quality with affordability, but Eat Tokyo manages to strike that balance perfectly.
In terms of drinks, they offer a selection of Japanese beers, sake, and teas that complement the meal well. The sake menu includes a few interesting options that are worth trying, especially if you’re looking to explore traditional Japanese beverages. For those who prefer non-alcoholic options, the green tea is a refreshing choice that pairs nicely with the flavors of the meal.
Overall, Eat Tokyo in Holborn is a fantastic spot for anyone looking to enjoy authentic Japanese cuisine without breaking the bank. Its extensive menu, high-quality ingredients, and affordable prices make it a standout in London’s Japanese dining scene. Whether you’re a sushi connoisseur or a ramen enthusiast, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Read moreThis was the second time dining at this Eat Tokyo and it will be my absolute last.
We were seated in what looked like a basement. White empty thin cheap walls, tables super close together, only seperated by clear standing frames to abide social distancing. Completely pointless if you ask me, shouldn't have that many people coupled up in one small room anyways!
One of the worst restaurant experiences, due to a super loud rude obnoxious family of 10 people. Talking very loudly, getting drunk. We asked for a quieter table but we were told the upstairs area was busy, which we didn't believe as we could have happily waited for a table to free up.
We had no were else to go so decided to deal with it and try and make the best.
As the night went on the family got louder and louder, then got to a point where another family sitting between them and us had enough and asked them to be quiet. They were met by a rude family member who decided he wanted to fight. The other family member were trying to calm the situation down and at this point the restaurant manager came down.
Who I thought was absolutely out of his depth, had no idea how to deal with the situation, instead of literally just asking them to leave.
We ate super fast, we couldn't wait to get out of there and all we got was an apology, nothing was on the house for the inconvenience and I told the manager he should not have people like this in the restaurant. Its disrespectful for everyone around having to deal with it and then having to pay for a meal which was ruined because of this expense.
I thought this would be an authentic lovely evening which just ended up being a night at a...
Read moreEat Tokyo, this branch in particular, has been a favourite for years and would usually be a 5* for me. The food is always delicious, the portions on the larger side and the prices reasonable. The fish and sushi especially have never failed to be great.
However, my guest and I were both rather disappointed by the service on our last visit (4th of November). We arrived before restaurant opened and queued so we were some of the first people to get in at opening.
I understand the place gets busy but we felt rushed: our waitress asked us not once or twice but thrice if we were ready to order, whilst we were still very clearly reading the menus on the table. There’s so many options it takes a while and it was getting annoying to be pestered.
The dishes all came quickly and I cannot fault the food (though a few options were not stocked that day) but we felt watched like a hawk!
Barely had time to finish eating and decline desserts and we were promptly presented with the bill.
As it happens, this was a birthday meal for me which has been a little tradition for a while and I’ve never felt rushed like this before. For context, I ordered 5 dishes of different sizes plus a drink and my friend also got several starters plus a main meal and drink so it’s not as though we were were hogging the table with barely any food.
As we left, we expected to see a large line outside that might explain why we were being so rushed, but there was no one!
Overall, we enjoyed the food but the service certainly dampened...
