This is an interesting experience of worse customer service provided by this Korean restaurant here in London. Sadly, it is our friend recommended us to come here. Our friends arrived before us and asked for a table for 5, the waitress told them to wait, this is fine. Later, we arrived and total 5 people were waiting outside their door, we thought the table was not ready yet, hence started to drink our tea. Then the most welcome waitress, Lin (hopefully spelling it correctly), came out to not tell us the table is ready but cannot drink the tea inside, ok that's fine, fair enough, we understand. The wait continued, even until our teas are finished, 2 of us went to find a bin to throw away the cup. I went inside to ask how much longer we have to wait. Oh god, here come the best part, she, yes the same waitress who told us not to take our drinks inside, said is your party complete? I was "what???", She continued, you need to tell me when your party is complete and where are other people? You don't have 5 people now. The 3 of us who stayed waiting all thought again "what???" and said we had 5 people here, just 2 of us went to throw rubbish, funny enough, she insisted we have to have 5 people here and TELL her we are ready even there was a table ALREADY READY for us. So she saw 5 of us were here waiting and said nothing and done nothing just leave us waiting in the cold, then tried to argue she is on the right side and put the blame on us. What an excellent customer service. At the end, we didn't want to argue with her and left immediately. Fortunately another nice, friendly Korean restaurant is just few doors away, they even say nothing about bring drinks inside.

So glad we tried this place. It looks a little like a deli counter when you first walk in, but there are tables at the back. When we arrived at 7pm on a Thursday there was almost no one there, but halfway during the meal we looked around and realised loads of people had arrived and the place was full - always a good sign! The food was amazing, some of the best Korean I’ve had in London. The seafood pancake came in individual portions, which was slightly strange, but it was crisp and tasty. The japchae was chewy and springy, which I really enjoyed - not a fan when it’s over cooked and becomes wet and mushy. We also had a beef stir fry that was sweet and savoury, really delicious. But my favourite was the KFC (we had the soy flavour). I’ve had quite a bit of KFC in London now and it’s difficult to get right - the batter can’t be too heavy, the seasoning can’t be too sweet and the chicken still needs to be moist. This one was just right - would go back just for that. Special mention to the lovely service. The staff is warm, friendly and really attentive - they spotted when we needed water refills, helped us arrange the table, immediately took empty plates away. Not the cheapest (for four dishes it was just shy of £60) but well worth it - and we took the leftovers for another meal. Will be back!

TL;DR = Tasty food + Cozy vibes. I came to Zipbab after finishing work since I was craving some Korean food. The few others customers I saw had the same idea and I can totally understand why; the services was super friendly and relatively fast as well. Some customers also took takeaway which would be an great option if it gets busy as it is a small and cozy restaurant. Bonus points for the chill music. I got the Spicy Pork Bibimbap (+egg) and it was very balanced and mild in flavour. They allow you to customise it by giving you soy sauce and gochujang (chilli) sauce bottles for you to add. The chilli is definitely worth a special mention as it completes the dish for me. It's not super spicy either so I highly recommend everyone to give it a try. In terms of portion, it was average. Value was also pretty average for London Prices. It's an easy recommend from me!

This place does not even deserve one star.

Absolutely horrible and awful "management", who does not understand the basics of running a restaurant.

I ordered a dish, which was absolutely disgusting. It had no flavor, way too much oil and it didn’t taste fresh. It looked like they just reboiled the food.

After I asked to exchange my dish because I explained that I am really disappointed, the manager lady told me that I’m insulting her cuisine and that it’s not possible. In fact, she started lecturing me. Absolutely inappropriate behavior for a manager.

I ended up not eating anything there. If fact, I was so shocked about the treatment towards me as a customer, I have never seen something like this before. A restaurant that cares about its existence in a place like London, should café about its customers.

Horrible food, horrible experience, inexperienced management. Definitely not a place to go to in London!

Response to your reply: I find it ridiculous that the management of this poor restaurant uses lies to respond to customers. The food was not fresh and disgusting. If the customer pays for this meal, the food should be enjoyable and not have poor quality - that is how simple it is. Claiming that the customer wanted a "free meal" after unhappiness with the meal was expressed is frankly ridiculous and again shows how bad the manager woman is in "managing" this place. It is even more ridiculous, since the dish was not eaten at all but still paid for.

To end with a very useful insight from the "management" regarding my complaint about the bad quality of the food, she said: "God will give gave it back to you". There is absolutely nothing more to add about the credibility of a "manager" who says that to a customer, in front of other customers.

Avoid this place by all means, there are so many other amazing restaurants in this area, who serve fresh and delicious food and care...

It is such a shame how this restaurant used to be the best Korean restaurant in London but dropped its standards now.

When Zipbab first opened, we used to frequent it because the food tasted homemade, perfectly cooked and fresh, with the right amount of seasoning and flavors. I would’ve given it five stars back then. We loved the fried chicken wings in soy garlic or sweet chili sauce, because the skin were perfectly crispy and generously coated with sauce. I used to come here and order just a kimbap and beer for a simple dinner, the kimbap was so flavourful and packed full of fresh produce and meats.

When we went last week on a Wednesday for late lunch, we ordered the usual fried chicken in sweet chilli sauce and the Zipbab kimbap. The fried chicken skin was way too chewy and hard, it seems they overfried it or it has been sitting around for way too long. The sauce wasn’t as generous as before and barely coated the chicken. The kimbap was the biggest disappointment of all, as I couldn’t even taste the spam inside it and flavor was very bland, compared to the past. I don’t know if the head chef is off on this day or they just wanted to hurry through lunch service, but the standards have dropped by a mile. I can’t call this the best Korean restaurant in London anymore, and not even “one of the best”.

The service was very neglectful and horrendous as well, as it took forever for the male servers to even greet and seat us with menus. They seemed like new hires but still. When they brought us the fried chicken they didn’t bring us plastic gloves to eat the chicken with. We had to wait a while for them to bring it. Overall, I was very disappointed.

Zipbab, please go back to being the friendly and delicious establishment that you were last year. It was such a wonderful place where I knew I could get the perfect meal and held such a dear place...
