I have been a loyal customer of Rox Burgers at their various locations for years, back when it was proudly one of the best burger spots in town, as their old sign at the new location still claims. However, after my recent visit, it’s clear that Rox is far from the high standard it once was. The experience was incredibly disappointing, and it’s painful to say, but Rox Burgers is no longer a contender for quality burgers.
Rox Burgers is now tucked inside a Pan-Asian restaurant, and their once appealing burger menu has been slashed to just four options. This was already disheartening, but the real issue began when the food arrived. My burger (the On the Rox) was burnt on the outside and dry on the inside. It also came with pickles—something I can’t eat—which weren’t listed on the menu, but the onions that were supposed to be there were missing. When I raised this with the waitress, she oddly responded with, “Oh, but you asked for no jalapeños,” which had nothing to do with the issue. My fellow diners had similarly lackluster meals; their burgers were just as dry, and none lived up to Rox’s former glory.
The fries were a particular low point. They tasted like they’d been cooked in old oil, with an unpleasant fishy aftertaste, which completely ruined them. Bizarrely, they were served with soy sauce instead of ketchup or mayo. When we asked for ketchup, it never arrived.
The service was equally disappointing. When one of my companions wanted a second glass of wine, we flagged down a staff member who told us we had to ask the waitress instead of helping us himself. Despite the restaurant being practically empty, it took almost 20 minutes just to get a glass of wine. Throughout the evening, it became more and more obvious that the staff wanted us gone. They started cleaning up outside, moving tables and chairs, and even turned the “open” sign to “closed” before 9 p.m., despite the restaurant’s posted closing time being 10 p.m. This made for an awkward and uncomfortable atmosphere, adding to an already frustrating experience.
All in all, the quality of both the food and service at Rox has dropped dramatically. What used to be one of the best burgers in town has become a subpar, uncomfortable dining experience. I’m genuinely relieved we used a Groupon voucher to discover this decline because if we had paid full price, I would have been furious. In all honesty, even with a voucher, you’re probably better off grabbing a burger from a fast-food joint. At least there, you know what you’re getting, and the quality is consistent. Rox Burgers, sadly, is a shadow of what...

We took our daughter and her friends here Sunday lunchtime for a birthday treat and ordered 7 burgers (5 beef and 2 chicken). The waitress returned with only 6 burgers, 3 of which were chicken. Despite the restaurant's mistake, we were told that we would have to eat the chicken one anyway "because it had already been cooked" as they weren't willing to replace it with the beef one we'd requested.
Some time later the missing 7th burger turned up. However, this too was chicken, when it was supposed to be beef! Disappointed but hungry, the child ate it all anyway.
We ordered drinks but questioned the "litre of lemonade" they sell for £6 as when ours arrived it was only HALF a litre (the remaining half of the container was simply frothy foam). The response via management was that if you can get "at least 4 glasses" out of it, there was nothing they could do. It didn't seem to matter that each glass only had a tiny amount in it. Labelled specifically as "1 litre of lemonade" on the menu and costing £6 it seems a sly way to overpromise and underdeliver. Why not just call it a jug of lemonade and avoid disappointment?
As we raised each of these issues, the waitress had to keep checking with management whose general response was 'there's nothing we can do about it'. For a new, local business in a competitive market we expected better. The burgers were good, but not so good that we'd put up with the same bad treatment again which is a shame as our main reason for going was to support an independent, local business. I've tasted better and been happier when getting a 'Mother Flippa' in Brockley Market or visiting Shake Shack in Canary Wharf. Both seem to value their customers more. The added bonus of the latter is it also seems to be the only burger venue in London where kids can also choose how they want their...
Read moreSo there's a lot to unpack here but bare with me... The place claims to be"Roxy Burgers" yet there is more Japanese cuisine and only a selection of about 4 different burgers, they even put chopsticks on the table, so yeah, definitely not a burger restaurant.
The burger was small and not like the burgers I had seen in pictures previously but with a pretty hefty pricetag considering. We had chorizo in our burgers and it was basically the chorizo from those prepacked deli meat selections you get from Tesco.
The chips came unsalted, with literally no table salt anywhere to apply your own. The tables were wobbly at the bottom and very sticky at the top like they hadn't been wiped clean.
And the icing on the cake for when we went to go visit "the best burger in the UK" was the condiments they bring to the table, I received a price marked bottle of euroshopper basics ketchup (pricemarked at £1.35) and whilst I am not a snob, when a company pushes that they cook food with the best ingredients but can't even be bothered to hide how scrimpy they get on a bottle of sauce then I don't feel 100% convinced that I am being sold a good quality product here.
The staff were lovely but I get the impression they know they're on a sinking ship as everything just felt a bit sad.
I came here off of a recommendation from a friend who used to go to the higher green branch but he's defo lost credibility now 😅
Best burger in the UK? Its not even the best burger along that thames walk...
It's a cafe burger with gourmet burger prices, I tell you something, I'd take Burger King over this every time and save myself a good chunk of change for some decent ketchup...
