🌟 5/5 Stars - A Must-Visit in London! 🌟
I recently discovered Fantuan, a hidden gem near Angel Station, and I’m obsessed! This place is a total game-changer for anyone craving authentic Asian flavors in London. 🍙✨
📍 Location: 25 Camden Passage, Islington, London, N1 8EA (just a few minutes from Angel Station)
What I Tried: 🍲 Wonton Soup - £6.8 The wontons are HUGE—like, bigger-than-my-fist huge! 🤯 The filling is super flavorful, and the broth is rich and comforting. Perfect for a chilly London day.
🍄 Mushroom Bao Buns - £6.8 (for two) These buns are soft, fluffy, and packed with savory mushroom filling. A bit pricey, but honestly, finding good bao in London is rare, so it’s worth it!
🥩 Korean Kimchi Beef - £13.8 This dish is a flavor bomb! The beef is tender, the kimchi is tangy and spicy, and the portion is generous. Highly recommend if you love Korean food.
🍙 Rice Balls - Around £8 each Chicken Purple Rice Ball: The purple rice is so fragrant, and the chicken is juicy and well-seasoned. Classic Sausage Rice Ball: The sausage is smoky and delicious, and the rice is perfectly sticky. Both are filling and satisfying—great for a quick bite or a full meal.
Why I Love It: Generous Portions: The wontons and rice balls are massive—you definitely get your money’s worth! Authentic Flavors: Everything tastes so fresh and true to its origins. Convenient Location: Super easy to get to, especially if you’re around Angel or Islington.
Pro Tip: This place gets busy, so go early to avoid the rush! Trust me, it’s worth it.
If you’re in London and craving some seriously good Asian comfort food, Fantuan is the place to go. I’ll definitely be back soon! 💯

Read moreWe arrived at 9:30pm for a quick bite, 30 mins before its closing time and asked if they still open. The lady seemed reluctant but let us in nonetheless. When our food was ready around 9:45pm, we were handed over a paper bag containing all our orders but we did not ask for take-out. In fact, they did not ask if we wanted take-out or dine-in. We wanted to eat in cause the food would be cold if taken back to our hotel. After explaining our intention, she said "but we are closing soon". I said don't worry it would not take us more than 10 mins to finish a light meal. She said fine. BTW, there are a few dining tables & chairs in there so by that we easily assumed this is the place for eating in.
From the moment we talked into the place until we left, the lady did not look at us while she was speaking to us.
Regarding the food quality, we (regrettably) ordered grilled sausages & dumplings, both of which were mediocre and tasted exactly like reheated frozen food.
During the meal, another guy came down and asked the lady why we were eating in.
We left the place around 9:55pm.
On at last, the bathroom was dirty.
I sort of wish they could turn us down in the beginning or specify take-away policy only in advance so that so we could go...
Read moreHidden down a pretty, quant passage way behind Angel Islington, was this delightful violet, mauve eatery.
I walked passed it a few weeks ago and just knew I had to return.
Despite having a look at the menu outside, I still didn't have a clue on what to order.
Inside the lady was so friendly and helpful, advising on the most popular filling. She suggested the salted duck eggs with fried dough sticks. I was told that this would bring out the sweet and saltiness.
A few minutes later, it was ready, a good sized portion too. I decided to sit in to enjoy the food. Which also meant I could watch the lady prepare the orders.
The fresh and warm rice with filling looked so appetising, I couldn't wait to tuck in.
It was lovely, saddest thing was, there just wasn't enough.
There were toilets inside, clean and decent too but I don't think it's step free access.
Enjoyed it, will visit again one day. For me, it didn't fill the gap, although you could order additional side dishes. It's more like a snack joint,...
