DISAPPOINTED - NEVER EVER AGAIN FOR THIS RESTAURANT: No flavour foods, served raw food, and terrible management
As a person from Asia who has been to Japan several times, I always like to go to Japanese restaurants to have comfort food that makes me feel like I am home. I have been to this restaurant several times and it is sad to say that the quality drops overtime.
The foods served had no flavour. I ordered Bento set which has miso soup, salmon teriyaki, teriyaki chicken, and tempura. The miso soup tasted like diluted miso soup. Teriyaki sauce for the salmon was watery and has very little taste. Tempura sauce was rather bland and not authentic. Overall, their food was flavourless except chicken teriyaki.
Some of the food was raw . Their carrot tempura was uncooked as can be seen in the photos - the white power in the middle of the photo that is raw tempura starch.
Terrible management – before I paid, I called the staff and gave them about feedback about their low-quality food. The staff member was shocked and told the manager to take a look. When the manager came and talked to me, she decided to remove the service charge. This was not an adequate remedy because the service charge has nothing to do with the raw and poor quality food served. Also, technically I can ask them to remove the charge anyway because their service was not good. I would expect better management from the restaurant. I will not go...
Read moreThey didn’t have my reservation when I arrived. The upstairs looks so cute and very Japanese, and they immediately handed me some menus and told me to go downstairs, which is nothing at all like the upstairs.
I asked if we could sit further away from the existing table, in one of the caves, and the waitress said no, they were reserved (they weren’t reserved - nobody sat in one of them the whole time). Then another couple came down the stairs while her back was turned and sat themselves in one of the caves and she didn’t say anything to them 🤷🏻♀️
Food was fine. We got the deal so it was curry, gyoza and miso for £13. Standard chicken katsu curry, standard gyoza, standard miso soup. Rice was kind of hard, but better slightly hard than too soft - and they had good portion sizes.
Service felt very akin to a busy Chinatown joint rather than an out-of-the-way Japanese gem - they rush you to eat, to pay, they add the mandatory service charge and they wanted to close the downstairs so they literally turned off the lights. At 8:30pm.
To me, the food was not worth that...

Yummy tofu bento and gyoza Served sky juice with slice of lemon Served warm food and awesome presentation Cosy clean & pretty space In a central location, near British museum Good selection of food
Needs improvement
Senior waiter/ manager? was not nice, tone and attitude rude to single Asian customer. (It's ok if u want to have single diner sit at the bar, but request kindly. Treat all your customers well and same.)
Was fawning & sweet talking to bigger groups, esp westerners. Attitude certainly needs improving
A more junior waiter was nicer
I don't mind that crew and restaurant chefs are Chinese or msian etc.. as long as e food is good, attitude is friendly and sincere. London rent is high, but your values and character should be above that.
Thank you for setting up this eatery, with good food at reasonable prices. Do be nice and friendly to single diners (single diners may eat there alone, but if good, will come back...
