Visited this place on Friday 31st March 2023. Wow I really wished I had listened to my friends about this place?! An evening that was dreadful in all aspects of the meaning. I start by saying the staff clearly from the off and entering the pub are not welcoming at all. They felt obliged not serve customers (with a full bar and customers complaining verbally) the staff visually expressing there annoyances at customers myself inclusive. Young lad, white male, 20-25 years of age, 6ft in height, blond hair does not enjoy having his jokes with colleagues disrupted to say the lease. If you do ask to be assisted he may just tell you to leave the pub altogether (he did with me) or you might just meet a someone who chose to attend work that day but doesn’t grasp the concept of actually working (as he pretends he cannot see people less than a metre from him) second person was a female, gingerish long hair, 5ft 10, claimed she was the manager of the pub but a quick hoogle search shows a Mr. Mehmut is infact the manager. This female basically behaved in the same sort if way as her well trained and well mannered colleague but did not like customers almost having eachothers backs. (People knew when they were being deliberately ignored and mocked through there conversations amongst eachother) too many pubs have been closed but this is still meant to be a business that wants to remain in business. Sadly, I fear the real manager in none the wiser regarding his staffs antics. Eventually I was served by the female considering other customers were starting to leave due to the goose staffs overall attitude. I counted 9 people walk out in total. I asked the female “so i can be served now? Because your colleague just told me to leave for asking for a beer?” She bypassed my words and poured me the wrong pint( i asked for a fosters and was given a san miguel. Due to the fact at this point I wanted to sit down and watch the boxing dylan vs franklin…. I had a total of two beers and as the boxing fight rounded up I went to order my last beer and was refused service based on being to drunk? I genuinely thought the male I described above was joking and trying break the ice, kind like a semi apology in his own way…. Nope! He followed up with and that I am harassing staff now? And the female approached there onsite bouncers who just came on to there shift,. She pointed at me where i was which was back at my seat to collect my coat and bag. Guess what??? A customer said that the male bar man I described above also had taken my iPhone attached to my portable charger along with my vape. My items were on the table no more than 2-3metres from where i stood at the bar. I asked another female bartender who also just came on her shift that her colleague had taken my items but I was too late she had already been scripted by her colleagues and was acting like I had done something terrible.(I just wanted my items and to leave at this point) This female was 5ft 8, charcoal black hair, had the whole goth dress style/attire, piercings on her face along with extra pale makeup. She refused to get my items or speak with her colleague and threatened to bring security over. I demanded to speak with a duty manager because this had been all just to strange and outright surreal. She hesitated and said errrm ok. She came back after 30seconds and said your harassing the manager? So i will have to call the police. I then proceeded to outline my identity, that i am infact a police officer and this female froze. I said I have been taking notes and rather than ruining other customers evening i am going to just leave full stop. Upon walking to the door she murmured some words which i believe to be “excuse me can you come back for a minute”. I left and the goose bouncer advised me to just come back tomorrow for my items. I just laughed and said who I was to him and asked if cctv is up to date and working. He said yes and apologised to me and told me he hated taking this particular site referring to the goose. I said have a great night and to stay safe. I am just...
Read moreI’ve being going to the Goose since I was 18, being from Romford I was so excited to show my friends the Goose and countlessly always writing great reviews. Now I can’t believe at 27 I was refused service cause my group was being “too loud” after winning a pub quiz by 1 point. We wasn’t drunk, wasn’t rude, we are all bartenders so we’re all very respectful. But our table was right up against a group 2 tables away and when we one.. by 1 point.. we was obviously excited and both tables screamed with laughter. Both were told by the manager and security to be quiet and of course respectfully we were. But to us not knowing, the other group was refused service because of them being loud. Straight away. But our group, it took us to chase are quiz winnings for 45 minutes before they told us we have our bar tab but we weren’t allowed to use it that night as we’ve been refused service for being too loud. Manager on duty said it was out of her control cause it was security that made the call. But then security told us that the ‘pub manager’ was their but off duty and told them not to serve us. But can we just evaluate it wasn’t anything else but for being loud, that was it.. plain and simple. Us all coming from pubs were horrified. And to only have been shown before we left who the pub manager was and how his group was acting was no better at all. My anxiety is threw the roof. I’ve not only told my friends how much of a fun time The Goose is but the staff were always really friendly. Tonight they looked miserable, no one was smiling, and I get Covid their is plenty of rules in place for safe measure. But being loud and to not be warned at least if you are a not quiet you’ll be refused service is the basic of what they should of done. They have no signs of what rules are in place their either. It was just all so sad considering I tell everyone what a great pub it was. Now me and all my friends will never set one foot in there again. Go further down the road, three pubs in a row that will be much better...
Read moreFor a large pub in a prime location with fantastic potential it is seriously lacking professional management. There is a high turn over of staff and although they are friendly enough and try to please it is quite obvious that their level of training is inadequate. This is apparent in the basics like, cleaning the bar, collecting glasses and most importantly serving drinks. The service is absolutely atrocious and it is normal to wait more than 10 minutes for a drink, after which time you will normally find that the beer is a short measure. When waiting at the bar you will have plenty of time to observe why service takes so long. The inexperienced staff have no idea who is next in the queue and so it becomes a bit of a free for all. A selection of reduced price cocktails are available and although this seems a good thing, the cocktails are made by the same untrained staff, where the ice has usually melted before the cocktail has been completed. The bar is always wet and untidy, the tables are always dirty and the glasses are left uncollected for too long.
On the plus side, there is a nice garden with plenty of seating and some individual cubicles. Heaters in the garden allows it to be used throughout the year. There is a very reasonably priced menu with a large selection of snacks and meals (I haven't personally tried the food due to concerns that the kitchen may be as dirty as the bar) The food however has generous portions and is very popular. The door staff are very professional and deal with any issues promptly and discreetly. Regular security checks of the pub, garden and toilets are carried out thus creating a comfortable environment.
In summary, if you don't mind waiting ages for a short measure in a dirty pub this is the place for you!!!
Note:- All of the above refers to a normal weekday. I wouldn't even attempt to get served when there is...
