Upon walking in to Helma's for the second time..I wasn't sure what to expect? I remembered the lady at the counter and the fact she gave me coconut milk in my first cappuccino, so I reordered. I looked at the menu and there was only really ever gonna be one choice - The Full Breakfast!. It was very interesting and intriguing on first appearance with some highs and lows in-between. The first thing that caught my eye was the Jerusalem Artichokes! At first I thought they were 🍄 or 🥔 but lo and behold after working it out in my mouth I figured out they were Artichokes only I had no idea what exactly they were? So I asked the young lady over and she explained everything and I was wondrous. I dug deeper to find a complex amalgamation of elements on my plate.. the radishes were exquisite 👌 the sauce amazing, so to was the garlic yoghurt which covered two amazing looking poached eggs. However the first egg was tastier than the second somehow..I tasted the yolk but had no flavour whatsoever in the 2nd egg.. puzzling? Also I hardly noticed the chilli butter and rainbow chards.. and couldn't identify them on my plate. Overall it was actually an amazing experience 👏. I'd deffo be back.. Star Rating 7-10. Read moreThis cafe is exceptional. Serving a menu of healthy and delicious vegetarian breakfast/lunch dishes it never disappoints. The owners have experience in some great restaurants and it shows, with well designed plates using high quality ingredients. Some of the dishes change monthly based on seasonality and it's always a treat to try the new offerings. Jars of homemade pickles and ferments bubble away on the shelves and add a twist to the dishes (some of these are available for sale - the fermented chilli sauce is fantastic). Look out for the tarts made by Tess which appear occasionally - she is a seriously good pastry chef! Sweet treats are great, I love the dark chocolate and cherry cookies and the coconut and orange macaroons. Coffee is very good (beans from Allpress). Always a warm and friendly welcome from Danielle behind the counter. Great for gluten...
Read moreThe Helma bowl £13 was really delicious, would have liked a bit more of whatever the sauce was they had used to decorate the bowl. The baked goods looked really good but unfortunately I didn’t have the chance to try. I couldn’t find anywhere to charge my phone either which was a shame.
I did notice that the menu wasn’t updated on their website so I was a bit disappointed when I didn’t find what I had come on for on their actual menu. It seems that some dishes get changed VERY often. You can tell from their Instagram page.
