Visited the Great London Bake at there new London site in Haggerstone with my wife We were very exited about going to the new site and we were not dissapointed , we were made very welcome by the Hosts Adam & Elouise and the rest of there team from the moment we stepped out of the fantastic fridge door entrance into an absolutely stunning archway Bar and seating area, once inside there was ample seating space and through the really nice double glass doors we could instantly see the tent and the baking stations were the early bake was well under way , outside of the doors there was a seated terrace area with electric heaters above head keeping you warm, the entrance into the baking tent was stunning with a photo opportunity in front of the great London bake sign with two really large cake ornaments either side, in fact it’s a great place for a photograph on the way out with your cake. Inside we were greeted and shown to our bake station where all of our ingredients were laid out , measured ready and waiting . Before we started the head baker gave us a few pointers and tips for our Ombre Cake we was to make, she reassured us she was on hand should we need her, as was all of the staff. After one and half hours of frantic baking we were all ready for the judging, once again that was made great fun as each cake was analysed by the Baker with criticism, advice along with praise for our efforts. Although we wasn’t placed everyone was really happy with their achievements. We were given a very handy carry box to take our cake home in , and must say it kept the cake in one piece all the way back to Lincolnshire . We finished the day off in the Bar area with a couple of fantastic cocktails, and a Jamie Dodger shot which was very nice before heading home. We will definitely be going back and would thoroughly recommend this experience at The Big London Bake Thanks to all the staff for a great day Nigel &...
Read moreThis place was great! Me and my family of 6 went for my sister’s birthday which was nice as it’s right next to the train station so was relatively easy to get to. The atmosphere was nice and there’s food and drink/alcoholic beverages available that you can take with you to the table you make the cakes on- and you can order more from there too! We were in teams of two making the cakes (which, for the day we went, was the lava cake) which ended up being hilarious as we thought we made the best looking cakes until we saw the other contestants at the end- which all somehow seemed like they were professional bakers. Anyway, it was a really fun experience and the staff were ready to help throughout the time we were there and you can pick the flavour of the cake base, the icing and the design of the cake itself too. At the end of the session, the cakes were reviewed by the head baker who decided on the best appearance and sliced some cakes to show the incredible 3 layered cake inside. We took the cakes home in boxes which was nice but we didn’t think about how difficult it would be to take 3 big boxes home on the train. However, as great as the experience was and was an overall fun experience for the family, I have to say the price of £60 per person seemed extortionate for the session in total really. Especially as there was 6 of us going. Overall, I would recommend for a fun experience for the family, friends who you could get drunk with,...
Read moreI recently attended a bake-off event that had potential to be a fun and engaging experience, but unfortunately, it was marred by several issues that detracted from the overall enjoyment.
While the concept was enjoyable and it was exciting to bake alongside others, there were significant logistical problems. There weren’t enough fans or space provided for cakes to cool, which made it challenging to prepare our bakes properly. Additionally, it felt unfair that one team had three members while all others were limited to two, giving them a clear advantage.
I was also disappointed to see staff assisting certain teams, particularly with their decorations. It gave the impression of favoritism, especially when the winners were chosen. The judging criteria seemed unclear and inconsistent. The organizers claimed winners were judged on flavor, yet no cakes were collected for tasting. Decor was also a factor, but the judge seemed to prioritize technical perfection over creativity, which felt biased and disheartening. It didn’t help that the judge appeared overly familiar with the winning team, adding to the perception of favoritism.
The event could be great with better organization, clear and transparent judging, and fairer support across all teams. It’s a good idea but needs significant improvement to feel truly fair and enjoyable for...
