Hoxton Barrel Pizza — Restaurant in London

EURGHHHH!

Thought I would check out this place after moving to Hoxton. As I was eating I found a huge caterpillar munching on the leaves. I appreciate that this probably meant the salad was fresh, even if it wasn't washed well but the way the staff handled it was pretty poor.

After letting them aware of the situation the waitress replied with 'Eurgh' and took the plate. Personally I would have been apologetic, not charged and been super nice about it. I waited 10 minutes and then left. The waitress and chef came out to ask why I didn't pay and 'so what you had a worm in your lettuce' I should pay. I explained that I didn't because they had handled it badly and so they went on to shouting at me in the street and told me to go to the charity shops next time....

Difficult to rate this one... was very excited at the prospect of having crepes or French toast made with free range eggs - the eggs are noted as free-range on their menus and this is always a deal-breaker for me.

Unfortunately, when in the cafe we asked for confirmation they were free range, the chap at the counter said he doubted they were, so we asked to see the eggs. The code on them showed they were actually from caged hens, not even 'barn eggs' which though still unacceptable to me would be at least a step up from the bottom of the animal welfare heap.

The reason I haven't given the lowest rating is that we appreciated the guy's honesty and also we had a couple of sandwiches instead (goats cheese and Mediterranean veg) which were decent, as...

Excellent value for money without the quality compromise factor. Their pizzas are wonderful! Italian style - thin crust with fresh toppings. My Pizza Fiorentina was one of the best I've had in a while. I also had Mozzarella & Tomato salad, which was equally lovely and well prepared with lashings of basil oil. Even my friend, who is quite fussy with his food, said that he really liked his Pizza-Mexicana. The staff seemed genuinely friendly and smiley and they made us feel very welcomed. No alcohol, only the standard selection of soft drinks on the menu, however a bonus was that they make pretty impressive freshly squeezed juices. Spacious inside with arty decor. A few tables outside for hot summer days. I am definitely coming...
