Dishonest restaurant - my response added at the end with photo evidence. Had a bowl of 'hand-pulled' beef noodles there. Before placing the order, I asked the waiter if noodles are really freshly hand-pulled at the restaurant? The answer is yes. Later I found out he was lying, the noodles was not fresh taste bad, and beef are super chewy... At the till, I asked the waiter again if those noodles are freshly hand-made at the scene, he admitted they are NOT. They also charge a 12.5% service charge, ripe off place, avoid!
My response to the restaurant manager (12/05/2023)
After seeing your response, I felt I must expose you again.
Firstly, please don’t try to confuse the ‘hand-pulled noodles’ with ‘ramen’, the latter is known as chūkamen in Janpan and are cut rather than hand-pulled. Secondly, as a ‘Chinese restaurant’, you only serve ‘hand-pulled noodles’ as per your menu (photo attached, taken this week), no matter if they are thin or flat. Thirdly, replacing the thin noodles to the flat ones was NOT ‘according to my needs’, it was your waiter’s suggestion. What I ordered was ‘Lanzhou beef hand-pulled noodles’ (first one on your menu), which should come in thin noodles. But when I asked the waiter ‘are your Lanzhou noodles really freshly pulled?’ He said yes but quickly added ‘the flat noodle taste better’. I found it strange but given he how confident he was, I agreed. It then turned out those ‘flat noodles’ were not hand-pulled, nor fresh at all! Isn’t this disappointing?! You do not have any chief onsite that can hand-pulled those thin Lanzhou noodles, why can’t you just be honest and...

Read moreWe ordered Lanzhou noodles, spicy beef noodles, a pork Bao and some fried gyoza. The green handmade noodles were nice. A little soft for me, I would prefer them a little chewier. The pork in the bao was nice too (if a little sweet for my partner) and the dumplings were fine. The soups were super bland though. The Lanzhou just tasted like unsalted noodle water (I'm aware it's supposed to be a light beef broth). The spicy noodles had more flavour but weren't spicy or particularly beefy. The bao dough was so sad though... I wish it had been fluffier or richer. Just over £20 each plus a 12.5% service charge but wait, there's an option at the bottom of the bill to add a 15/18/20% tip on top (percentage is of the bill total including service charge). Seems pretty cheeky to ask for the tip... My partner said it was the most disappointing meal she'd...
