Where do I even start...
I chose this place to meet a friend I hadn't seen in a long time, attracted by its appealing presence on TikTok and Instagram. Unfortunately, aesthetics are the only positive aspect.
My friend ordered a vegan milkshake, and it was so awful we can't recall its name, although it's one of the few vegan options available (how inclusive, right?). Upon trying it, my friend immediately noticed it lacked any semblance of a milkshake; in fact, one tiny sip revealed no reduction in thickness.
Upon notifying the waiter (a brown-haired male) of the situation and mentioning my friend's coconut water allergy, he assured us she could choose another drink, and it would be added to the bill.
However, a waitress (blonde, name unknown due to our frustration) approached us. She spoke condescendingly, treating us as if we were children, and adopted an argumentative attitude. Notably, she informed us that my friend could choose another drink free of charge, but this seemingly generous offer came with a catch—we were then compelled to pay the service charge (despite being neither happy with the food or service), a stark departure from what the previous waiter had communicated. This lack of flexibility was disheartening and drastically differed from our initial understanding.
As it seemed like we were being coerced to pay the service charge my friend chose not to have a drink at all.
Attempting to salvage the dining experience, we struggled through the unpalatable food, but the encounter with the waitress left a bitter taste that surpassed even the disappointing pasta. The pasta is so tasteless even the salt and pepper could not save it - and if they are getting this simple dish wrong what can they get right?
At the meal's conclusion, the waitress returned, maintaining a condescending tone and attempting to shift blame onto us for choosing two pasta dishes. She even mentioned her smoke break, asserting she couldn't have enhanced our experience as she had to go for a smoke on her break. Whoever trained and hired her needs to reconsider their choices.
When I inquired about service charges on the bill, she claimed they were removed. However, as she continued talking, she aggressively mentioned, "Service charge is only £2-£3." Sorry, but after such a poor experience, I'm reluctant to provide any additional payment.
In conclusion, avoid this place; they attempt to justify their subpar food by blaming customers. And to the blonde waitress: perhaps refrain from...
Read moreI wouldn’t bother going here. This place hangs itself off of its decor (which by the way: the black and white striped sofas are ripped, the tables are wobbly, the plates you eat off are chipped and the knives are not sharp enough to cut toast with!). All that being said, the food itself is bland. The shakshuka comes with the eggs on top of the red sauce rather than being baked into the shakshuka itself and overall lacks flavour… the avocado (on toast) is bland (not even salted) and the icing on top is their pricing strategy. A match latte is £4.50 but if you ask for it iced, the same drink is £4.90 (they charge £0.40p for ice and if you ask to add a flavour to your iced matcha like strawberry or blueberry, the price jumps from £4.90 to £6.80, it’s madness). Another example is a regular coffee latte is £3.95, if you want it iced, it’s £4.50…?!
At the end, they charge 12.5% for service (which is pretty standard) but you have to wait ages for a waiter to make eye contact with you to come over and see what you need, in my case, it was another knife because the one I was given had lost all its sharpness and then when we finished, another waiter brought the bill but as he arrives, he says out loud, YOUR BILL IS £78.60 and he pushes the card machine close to my face. We asked if it was possible to SEE the bill to check all was correct before paying. As I’m reading the bill, the plate that the bill was on, he takes it off and walks away with it?! As waiters, they have no idea how to actually wait a table but their prices are high enough to give you the impression you’re going to a decent bistro cafe with decent service. Not...
