It is really nice to see that these gardens are still used, recognized and recorded. I had the privilege of building them in about 1964. I was a 23 year old young surveyor and contractor working for a company called Doe Contracts from Fyfield, Essex, who I believe still exist. By the time I got it finished a year later I had quickly got knocked into shape by the locals and my Irish subcontractors. I came away a very proud young man and nicely set up to face my new tough world in contracting. Many years later I took my two young girls to see my handy work. Whilst wandering along the top promenade I came across another young Dad doing the same with his much younger children. We exchanged hellos. A few seconds later this young man came back, and said to me " You are Roy aren't you ? In surprise I said "yes I am ". He said " can you remember when you were building this park you employed a young kid to patrol it every evening with his gang of followers to stop vandalism?" " I do " I said. " Well " he said, " that was me". What a lovely surprize and how amazing that he should have remembered me from his childhood all...
Read moreIt's a big enough park ready for a picnic with the family and a walk along its riverside where an incredible view of the London cities modern monuments are visible in the horizon. Like for example the Shard and the walky talky building etc... a calming scene with a soothing atmospheric breeze on a coldish day but summer is the best time to visit this park. Another bonus is wheelchairs can freely access this garden with ease from every entrance / exit. And might bump into celebrities namely athletes... I have no pictures to prove any of this but it's worth a visit, if it's not to your taste at least you came to one of East London's finest areas. Kids and pets will really like this park too. Across the road is a pub for access to public toilets, open most...

It's not maintained frequently enough, & though there's a separate area for people with dogs, you often have to watch where you step b/c dog owners are still lazy & don't clean up after their dogs all the time as they should. The climbing frames have been re-invigorated & there is also communal exercise equipment free to use next to the children's area. It connects easily to the Thames Path & there's a walking bridge over Westferry Road to get in/out without having to worry about traffic while...
