After having seen the strong reviews, we chose to give this restaurant a visit as it was in our area. We had a really warm welcome by the owner (?) into the entirely empty restaurant (apart from one screaming child and his mother near the kitchen - family to the owner??). Having looked at the menus and some of the prices of these dishes, we really expected the food to be out of the ordinary. It was anything but. We ordered the Siu Mai and pork-filled buns as starters: we had to ask for soy sauce which was definitely odd... They were tasty and only took 10-ish minutes to arrive. The main course showed up about half an hour after the starters, which wasn't really great since we were starving. That being said, the food was also tasty, but nothing that we can't get at our local takeaway place for half the price. Bill came up to £60 for two starters, main meals and beers. Stomach upsets followed this meal. You've been warned. We'd recommend this place if you want a really quiet evening out, the portions are quite big and the food is like any other nice Chinese restaurant, so if you have the money to spend then go ahead. If you're tight for cash and looking for a "casual" environment which is "good for kids", this is not the...
Read moreWe were walking around Putney and we had a cravint for asian food but we always have had Korean or Thai so thid time we took a risk and decided to go for Chinese.
Meiwei looks quite small and not too amazing from the outside but we were so wrong by judging it like that from the outside. Inside was spatious and it is nicely decorated. It really looks like a proper chinese restaurant.
In terms of food, i have never tried something so tasty and good. They also have a lot of options in the menu. From dumplings to buns to chow mein and many other plates.... Honestly, I think you would have to go about 20 tines to get a good example of all the plates they have.
The staff was super friendly and always tried to provide an excellent customer service. They also gave us some fortune cookies before leaving which wasn't expected.
I believe Meiwei has a lot to offer and it is probably very underrated for what it actually offers. It honestly surprised me when I tried their food. I can definately recommend and say that it is one of the best restaurants in...
Read moreWhat a disaster this place has become. I’ve been going to this restaurant since 2016, but I hadn’t visited for a while and I’m not sure if the owner changed or what happened. First of all, the staff is unbelievably rude—especially the bald guy who seems to be some sort of manager or waiter. He shouted at us and showed completely unacceptable behavior, then his colleagues came to apologise if I care —what nonsense is that? That’s not what you expect, especially when the bill is £150! I have never seen such rubbish service! I will never, ever come back to this place again.
And that’s not even mentioning the food, which has gone completely downhill. We were served dumplings with a hair in them and overcooked Cantonese prawns, which used to be our favorite dish.
From a USED-to-be loyal customer, I strongly recommend avoiding this place...
