It could have been 5 stars as overall we have enjoyed our dinner, however, the lack of attention to detail and appropriate customer service took it away. Compliments to the kitchen staff as we really liked all of our dishes except vegetable tempura and this is when our experience started to deteriorate. The tempura butter wasn't light enough and vegetables lacked flavour so we proceeded with the rest of our meal waiting for our waiter to approach us. This took a while and when he finally did show up asking if everything was ok I expressed our dislike of tempura. This clearly wasn't of interest to him as the only response we have received was "ohhh". There was no follow up question regarding what was wrong with the dish, no mention of replacing it for something else and most importantly it was left on the table as if something magical was going to happen and we were just about to suddenly change our minds. Furthermore, when the bill arrived the tempura was still on it and I decided to just pay for it as it seemed like there was no general understanding of what should have been done in such situation. We also weren't offered refills of the green tea even though that's a standard procedure in other branches that I have previously visited and when we asked for it they arrived after we already finished our meal. It's a shame as I love Wagamama but this experience does not want me to return even though our waiter was polite and seemed quite nice but on the whole lacked some of significant skills necessary to provide a good...
Read more“From bowl to soul” says the commercial and always gets me hyped up. But when my enthusiasm meets the reality, that is where the hype ends. Eating in Wagamama, or in this one in Putney in particular, is a experience of mixed feelings. The food looks great, but there is always something weird about it. We had pork buns, and hands down, they were great. Followed by Wagamamas ramen, half cold, with fairly cold egg, with a broth that lacked a bit of a flavour... or soul? But I have to give it a credit for the pieces of pork belly within. They were stunning. My Gf had a steak soba. The meat was just ... not nice.( you know, like when you let the meat mature too long) The rest nicely flavoured standard teriyaki noodles. I would not be so strict about it if it wasn’t for the price. The problem with Wagamama is, it is a diner that tries to charge you as a restaurant. A hybrid of some sort that doesn’t do it well. There are much better places worth the money you are being charged for. I don’t think I will visit Wagamama again for next several months, untill I forget and will try give it a go again. Like I have done 4 times in last 5 or so years and always left .. feeling tricked. Strangely to me, the place was heaving tonight with customers and they all seemed to enjoy the food way more than we did. Perhaps years of work in catering industry made me more sensitive or rather less forgiving to...
Read moreI chose to forget my gym session in favor of enjoying a meal at Wagamama, but my initial excitement was quickly diminished by the lackluster food. The service at the restaurant was commendable, yet it could not compensate for the disappointing quality of the dishes. They were notably flavorless, falling short of my expectations for a fulfilling dining experience. Although I had intended to reduce my meat intake, my hunger led me to select a meat dish in search of comfort. Regrettably, the meal did not meet my hopes, and while the staff was very polite and seemed quite occupied, I felt it was more appropriate to eat quietly rather than express my concerns. At the end of my meal, I was asked about leaving a tip. Considering the unsatisfactory food quality, I chose not to leave one, a decision I shared with the staff, who seemed to appreciate...
