I know this place since 2020 Easter time when pandemic heat and we had our first lockdown. This place per the owner was going though difficult and stressful times, they just had opened and additonally their ovens had broken down and he had to bake the brioche/ Tsureki and cookies in the oven of his house. We felt for him and we made a big order. Plus one additional order so we can help the business and gifted the treats to Faye's brother. We live in South Kensington for many years and we are a known couple in our community/ neighbourhood and we felt supporting this small Greek independent business since my wife is Originally from Greece. Fast forward today..
I am super regular there. Going everyday to grab one freddo espresso for my partner. By saying everyday, I mean it. I am a huge coffee lover and personally for me - nothing beats ILLY. So when usually stopping by to grab one freddo espresso for my partner I'm already drinking mine. Even if regular I received once quite surprising comment about me drinking coffee from another place and quote: "illy is rubish. my coffee is the best, ask anyone here". I smiled and skipped that because come on, you can't be serious, right?
I kept going there and luckily I was serviced by the girls working there and not the owner himself. Unfortunately today I bumped again into him so as usual - ordered freddo espresso. I always have my dog with me, so holding him and two coffees would have been difficult. I asked politely if I can get a paper cup carrier( you know - those made out of recycled paper). He smiled and me and he said that I have ordered one coffee only. This surprised me to say the least and I pointed at my other coffee. He told me that he sees only one coffee from this place and asked me with clear sarcasm if I want a second one from his place. Shocking seriously. To lose a client over a give away free cup holder. I've asked him with a smile - "seriously?" After which he started repeating "thank you, thank you" over and over as if I should leave already. My reply was - you'll never see me stepping foot here again.
Apart from the bad customer service the setup of the place is awkward. The lighting is unsettling. Cakes are in fact mediocre. Anyway. One of my very few reviews worth giving here on Google.
Greeks are known to be one of the most warm and hosting ppl in the entire Europe, but not this one. I'm still stunned by his...
Read moreThe pastries are always top tier. But don't bother sitting in. I've always loved their Greek pastries and cakes, however, their customer service is really bad that I won't be coming again.
I was actually pleased to see this many 1 stars all talking about the terrible service of this bakery because I actually thought it was unbelievable and I was being too weird.
They answer the negative comments here with "this is our company policy". It's weird. Maybe your company policy is a bit bad and you need to change that?
1 drink 1 pastry per person rule does not make sense at all. I've been there multiple times and never once I saw the cafe full. Don't get me wrong, it might get busy, but I didn't see it.
We're already paying £6 a pastry - which is a really good pastry btw, no criticism for the taste there - but being told "get a drink if you want to sit" is very disappointing. I said ok "I'll have two pastries to go then" and was told "its ok you can sit". Weird - assuming pastries were expensive ones and not £2-3 croissants. It's not that people don't want to spend money or don't have money to spend - sometimes people just want to eat, and that should be allowed. Just weird.
I've sat in many great bakeries in London, and never experienced this kind of a customer service. They basically don't seem to care to be honest. I think their main work is maybe custom orders or big cake orders etc. that they don't really need to bother about daily customers.
Anyway, just take takeaway or don't bother coming and leaving with disappointment and the feeling of...
Read moreI went to Molly Rose last afternoon and I was highly disappointed in the service and the food. The scone that I ate was raw and I could not finish it.
There were 3 of us and we walked in with the intention to share a scone between the three of us after a filling lunch. So I requested for a scone and was asked if I was having it here or taking away. I said I'd like to have it here. She asked 'is that all?' and I said yes, until my cousin said that he'd like to have a Biscoff cookie too. The woman at the counter asked if we'd like to have anything to drink and we said no. She suddenly added that because we were three people, we'd have to have 3 things if we wanted to sit in. This was clearly a random rule she made up on the spot, as she had made no mention of this when we were just going to eat a scone.
I gave in, and ordered an English breakfast. When she brought over the tea, I requested for a second cup so that I could share the tea which was too much for me. She told me that one teapot per person. I said I won't be able to finish it and I just wanted to share the tea. She said 'you can leave the rest of the tea'. This was ridiculous given that I should be able to decide how my tea is consumed, as this is not a buffet system. Really odd behaviour by the bakery staff.
Do not recommend a place like this. If you are in the hospitality business, learn to...
