I work in the area so went when it first opened and it definitely had some teething problems (very confusing and nonexistent service + ok food) but didn’t write a review then as understand they were a new business. It’s been a few years and opted to pop in for lunch.
Pros: Service has improved drastically and was very attentive Food came out quickly I ordered the beef noodle soup and the fresh noodles were cooked well and had a nice chewiness to them. The beef was also tender. Bill came out quickly
Cons: The price is shocking for the area. Especially considering the number of other restaurants with similar menus (Ye Ye, Xian Biang Biang, My Old Place… just to name a few) nearby. At least 25% more expensive on like for like dishes The above is exacerbated by the small size of the portions. Again, having been to similar restaurants in the area - larger portions and smaller price tag Would be willing to pay if the food was excellent. Unfortunately, other than what was mentioned above in the pros, the broth was very salty and wasn’t balanced due to the aggressive use of sichuan pepper. I also ordered a pig ear salad. Worst one I’ve ever had. Huge slices of pig ear and chunky cucumber cut into rounds and then cut into 4 long chunks - but not even cut cleanly through. Then just chili oil dumped on top, not mixed together in the slightest. Good renditions of this salad should have the cucumber and pigs ear julienned and tossed in a spicy and vinegary sauce where everything is covered. I could have made this at home. Plus, it cost over £12. Server tried to upsell me on alcoholic drinks during lunch and while I was eating alone. Not above a day drink alone, but it was so obvious that wasn’t the vibe and they just wanted to increase the total bill.
For two dishes, it came to over £33. That’s absurd for the area. Especially with much tastier and larger portions at many restaurants within a less than 5 minute walk.
Understand I’m the outlier as people seem to really love this place but I won’t be coming back and don’t understand all the...
Read moreDisappointing experience, wouldn’t recommend.
The beer situation was baffling. The menu simply listed “Asahi 330ml” with no mention that it was bottled. I assumed it would be a small glass of draft beer, especially given the name of the place. When I asked if I could switch to draft instead, I was told the menu doesn’t list any drafts, even though the place is literally called Noodle & Beer. Strangely, I was then informed that Kirin is available on draft — again, not mentioned anywhere. I asked to switch from the unopened Asahi bottle to Kirin, but was told the cap had already been removed. £6 for a small bottle felt unreasonable. At the very least, I would expect draft at that price.
Even more confusingly, when we originally asked for both Sapporo and Asahi, we were told Sapporo wasn’t available. Yet a few minutes later the table next to us ordered and received Sapporo. This inconsistency didn’t inspire much confidence.
Food-wise, we ordered both dry and soup noodles. The noodles were served pretty slow, later than the person next to us (they ordered same menu), which was quite frustrating. The flavour was decent, but the noodles were too soft for my taste — especially from an Asian perspective. If you’re after well-textured noodles in the area, I’d recommend YeYe instead.
Overall, the service was slow, inattentive, and disorganised. And the beer situation — advertised prominently in the restaurant’s name — felt like a bit of a bait-and-switch. Several other tables also seemed to have unknowingly ordered bottles before realising draft was an option. If bottles are the default, that should be clearly stated or explained when ordering.
Disappointingly, a 12.5% service charge was added to the bill — despite the lack of basic attentiveness or menu clarity. I won’t...
Read moreToday I went to eat my favorite noodle shop again! It's really delicious, I miss it if I don't eat it for a while! And their restaurant is very contrasting. The noodles, snacks and environment are very exquisite while the taste is very good!
🌶️Fresh pepper beef noodles, yyds! ! The beef stir-fried with red pepper and the dry noodles are really a must-have! Although it is labeled as having the highest level of spiciness, it is a very fragrant pepper! It’s not particularly spicy, it really gets better and better the more you eat it! Super love!
🌶️The pickled pepper chicken mixed noodles is also highly recommended, and the one above is what I call the best of both worlds! The fried chicken mixed with pickled peppers has a sour and spicy feeling. It is also eaten with noodles, which complements the spiciness of the fresh peppers above. It is really good ~
🌶️Roasted pepper preserved egg, so fragrant! It’s delicious as a cold dish to relieve the spiciness! Even though there are a lot of peppers on top, these roasted peppers actually become more and more fragrant the more you eat them, and the preserved eggs seem to have become a supporting role~
🌶️Red oil hand copy, wildly recommend! There is lotus root in it, very fresh delicious as always! The filling is very satisfying! There are a lot of ingredients at the bottom, remember to copy them evenly
🌶️Peach peach ice powder, filled with yellow peach, aloe vera, glutinous rice balls and mint pearls, paired with a separate bottle of coconut milk, is really super satisfying! I also ordered two cups of Mocktail. Their Mocktail is very good and worth a try!
Overall, Noodle and Beer is really delicious! ! I have never been disappointed~ I often want to eat fresh pepper beef noodles and Chao Shou! I will go there next...
