Paul Charterhouse is a small French styled cafe, accomodating 21 inside and a further 18 outside. While it offers free wi-fi, it is not ideal for working on laptops (given the small sized tables), but more suited for a relaxed sit down or takeaway. If you after quality pastries and coffee it a cheaper and better alternative to Starbucks, Costa or larger chains. The service is friendly and incredibly efficient with the staff building a rapport with regular customers.
Located opposite to Smithfield Market, between Farringdon and Barbican in the City of London Pauls Charterhouse gets busy in the mornings (weekdays 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday and Saturdays 8am to 4pm) so show uo early for freshly baked goods. The quality of baked good for the price is unmatched. None of the telltale artificial cyanide-fake fragrance you get from essence based baked good.
The menu goes beyond pastries and includes salads (including Salade Fermiere, Salade Chevre Provencale, Salade Nicoise), hot sandwiches including Croque Monsieur ans sandwiches (including Sandwich Montagnard). The Mini Chocolate Doughnuts are amazing and £5 for 10. Some of the best vegetarian options include Croissant Omelette and Quiche Flamiche Poireaux.

Keep in mind they mostly sell baggers, sandwiches and cakes. So if you are looking for carbs free lunch - this wont the place to go for. On the other hand is you want to indulge yourself them pay them a visit....
