I’m not sure if they have changed chefs but the food has GREATLY gone downhill and continues to. I am continually dissatisfied and disappointed with the food. I can’t believe this is the same peppers and spice who had the BEST Jamaican/carribean food in London. It’s shocking how dyer it has got. I ordered the a chicken soup two days ago and am still reeling at the quality and taste of it! How dare they call themselves a carribean restaurant/food chain and put/use frozen veg and or tinned vegetable soup in a chicken soup!!!!!! This is unheard of! Chicken soup isn’t hard to make. Any Jamaican will tell you! It had the bitterness of tinned soup and tasted like vomit! Revolting and so disappointing based on the fact that this IS PEPPERS AND SPICE!!! I expect this from other restaurants but not this one! It actually makes me angry how incredibly under average the food is these days. Especially being a Jamaican myself! I stopped coming to the dston branch a long time ago and only ever go to the Tottenham branch which is far better although still not the famous peppers and spice I grew with to love & adore! I only came back to Dalston on this occasion because Tottenham didn’t have chicken soup and that’s what I really wanted .. also how hard can it be to get a basic chicken soup right?! Well clearly NOT VERY HARD! Chicken soup used to be amazing from here! Not anymore! The patties are gross now!! Full of mash potatoes !! No flavour!! And no real filing! Literally taste like mush - if it wasn’t fir the pastry it would be foul! Nothing on what they used to be. You used to not be able to get a better patty in London - now - light work! They need to step their game up - or get back old management or old chefs because it is always a HUGE let down! and a...

In the heart of Dalston, where sourdough rules and the scent of artisanal coffee permeates the air, lies Peppers & Spice—a Caribbean patty shop that’s been holding its ground longer than most of the beards in the vicinity. It’s a place where authenticity isn’t just a buzzword; it’s baked daily into golden, flaky parcels of joy.
The display counter gleams with patties stacked like the Bank of England’s gold reserves, each exuding a tempting aroma that could make even the staunchest dieter reconsider their life choices.
The walls are a riotous collage of local gig posters and vibrant “taste the drip” punch advertisements, a testament to the community’s heartbeat.
I opted for the vegetable and salt fish patties, a decision that proved wiser than investing in the latest superfood fad. The vegetable patty greeted me with a satisfying crunch, giving way to a soft, fluffy interior that was a harmonious medley of spiced potatoes, carrots, and other veggie delights. A swig of Diet Coke provided the necessary interlude, cutting through the heat and prepping my palate for the next delectable bite.
In a world obsessed with the next big culinary trend, Peppers & Spice remains a steadfast guardian of genuine Caribbean flavors. It’s a reminder that sometimes, the most unassuming places offer the richest experiences—no molecular gastronomy or foraged...
Read moreWell if you are ever in Dalston in fact even if you are not, this place is definitely worth a visit. It’s literally one of the best and most authentic Caribbean takeaway you will ever find.
This place used to be on the main road but for whatever reason it moved onto balls pond road just by the junction. I can’t tell you enough how good the food is. It’s one of the few takeaways that you will be standing in the queue in the street on a daily basis alongside every type of race of people who simply just want the food.
On this visit I bought a fried dumpling and fried fish along with three patties. One vegetarian, one salt fish, and one chicken. No words needed on the quality I’ve literally been buying food from these people for over twenty years and it only gets better. The staff are always rushed off their feet never a moment to chat because the customers are endless. On this visit I just stood outside and looked at the verify of people who waited in line for their turn. From a middle aged Caribbean man to a teenager with her mother and then a young English guy alongside a middle aged English guy to a construction worker. Truly amazing to see the appeal. I really recommend this place for the quality of food and the speed of service and most of all the...
