I love poke, but this place offers a really medicore-verging-on-bad version. (Definitely the worst poke bowl I've ever had!) Staff were gloomy and served the food like they didn't care (in other poke places I've been, staff take care placing the different toppings neatly around the bowl in orderly piles, here they just dumped them out any old whichway, on top of each other). The veggie options for protein were falafel (kinda weird in poke?) and fake chicken nuggets. I chose the nuggets but they were dried out and tasted like they'd been out for days. I've known other places charge extra for avocado, but here they charged extra for avocado, wakame AND mango (i.e. all the good toppings) — this is on top of an already quite expensive bowl! (Pricier than Island Poke anyway, which is probably the closest comparison). None of the vegetables had any kinds of interesting seasonings or dressings and the chargrilled sweetcorn didn't taste chargrilled. The rice felt like it had been out a while as well. At the end, she put on so many crispy onions I felt like I was going to have a heart attack (totally unbalanced the bowl as all I could taste was crispy onions!) I know working places like this is a thankless task, I know it's minimum wage work in a bleak economy. But other poke places have managed to motivate (somehow!) and train their staff to actually care about what they're delivering. (No one behind the counter seemed to be doing any better FWIW, it wasn't just my one server having an off day, they all seemed gloomy and half-arsed). TBH the food was bad enough that I probably wouldn't come back, but even a little bit more care from the staff would at least have made the bowl slightly...
Read moreI got food poisoning from this place, I was so unwell the day after that I passed out on the platform at the train station and staff there almost called for an ambulance twice. Recovering as I write this.
I paid for a large bowl and it weighed and looked the same size as the regular my friend ordered. There were ingredients missing which had to be substituted for something else. The service was miserable, the lady preparing my bowl seemed unhappy and bored.
There were empty bowls left on some of tables that were not cleaned up. We ate in and the staff seemed to just periodically disappear for 5-10mins and at times there was no one behind the counter which was really weird.
I called the restaurant and the guy who answered seemed unsurprised and to not really care at all. I was fobbed off, told to just email the company and I might get a refund. No “oh I’m sorry for making you sick” or anything like that.
Think this place is probably not preparing/storing their raw food correctly and not keeping up with food hygiene standards. I was very lucky that I didn’t hit my head when I passed out at the station.
It goes without saying buy real poke/ sushi from somewhere else. Its not worth getting sick for and it could be seriously effect...
Read moreI recently visited Poke House and had an excellent experience, especially thanks to the friendly and attentive staff member named Hari. The restaurant itself offers a great variety of fresh ingredients, allowing you to build your own poke bowl exactly how you like it. I opted for a base of white rice, topped with tuna, avocado, edamame, and a tangy spicy mayo sauce, all of which were incredibly fresh and flavorful. The fish was tender and high-quality, making each bite a treat.
What really made the visit stand out, though, was the exceptional service provided by Hari. From the moment I walked in, he greeted me with a warm smile and was incredibly patient as I took my time deciding on my bowl. He was also knowledgeable about the menu, offering helpful suggestions and making sure everything was prepared just right. It’s rare to encounter such a level of personal care at a fast-casual spot, and Hari truly made the experience feel special.
Overall, Poke House delivers on both quality food and excellent service, with Hari being a standout example of the welcoming and attentive staff you can expect here. I’ll definitely be...
