Hello,

This review has also been sent to tripadvisor and booking.com. Unfortunately, booking.com would not post my review even though it is completely honest and an accurate representation of what happened during my stay at your hotel.

“I booked this hotel on the 15/07/2020 to stay on 06/08/2020. It was a surprise birthday present for my boyfriend so when we arrived and read an A4 piece of paper on a locked door saying they were “closed due to COVID”, I was pretty angry.

I had paid £130 to stay in a deluxe double room that I had booked a month prior. However, when we arrived at the replacement hotel, they simply gave us a triple room instead of a deluxe double. Why on earth would we need a triple room when we are two people?? The room was no where near as nice as the original one we had actually booked and reserved at hotel Portico. Another single bed with no use is not a compromise.

After me asking why we are not staying at hotel Portico he explained it was due to COVID. What does that even mean? Your hotel is open, so why wasn’t I informed about Portico being closed? It all seemed a little bit convenient when I read the reviews and other people who have used this hotel said they have also been shipped off to another hotel with no explanation!

Maybe this is a technique used to keep the maximum priced hotel rooms available at hotel Portico and ship people off to the cheaper and less desirable hotel to book that one up which otherwise maybe wouldn’t be. I mean, this isn’t the first time this has happened to me in hotels in London...

We had traveled for 4 hours to visit London so even if the hotel had changed their plans that day, there was still PLENTY of time that morning/afternoon to call/email me and tell me about the rearrangement.

I will be emailing this to the hotel as I would really like a reply and to be informed as to why my trip was changed without ANY notice or compensation.”

I am extremely disappointed in how unprofessional this booking was dealt with. I had no contact from the property on any sort of cancellation. I actually read on tripadvisor that you were taking precautions as such as cleaning to help keep us safe WHILST STAYING AT THE PROPERTY. I had even emailed In advance to enquire about the parking you say is available at the property (which isnt in fact true, that you have to pay £4 an hour for and don’t inform guests before booking) and wasn’t informed on anything COVID related.

The whole experience was in fact a bit of a disaster really and I would like a genuine reply as to why I paid £132 to NOT stay in a hotel I had booked well in...

I recently stayed at The Portico Hotel, and it was an absolutely perfect experience from start to finish! Every aspect of my stay was a solid 10/10, and I couldn’t be more impressed.

First, the decor and ambiance were breathtaking. The nostalgic telephone in the room was such a charming and unique touch, bringing back fond memories of a bygone era. The hotel’s interior design was elegant and refined, with every detail thoughtfully curated. The Christmas decorations, including the beautifully lit tree and festive garlands, added a warm and magical touch to the entire atmosphere.

The shower was phenomenal—modern, spacious, and offering a luxurious experience that felt like a private spa. The cleanliness of the entire hotel was impeccable, with every corner sparkling and pristine. It’s clear that the staff takes great pride in maintaining the highest standards.

The convenience of room service was another highlight. Whether it was food or other essentials, having everything delivered with prompt and friendly service added an extra layer of comfort and luxury to my stay.

A special shout-out to Archan, whose name was prominently displayed and who provided exceptional hospitality. Their attentiveness, professionalism, and warm demeanor made my stay truly memorable.

The bar area was equally impressive, exuding a cozy yet luxurious vibe. The staff were incredibly attentive and welcoming, going above and beyond to ensure every guest had a fantastic experience.

The Portico Hotel truly combines elegance, nostalgia, and modern comforts in the best way possible. From the incredible interior to the outstanding service, everything here is worth every penny. I cannot wait to return for another unforgettable stay!

To the receptionist at The Portico Hotel in Victoria, on Friday afternoon 27th of June, who decided to kick us out, well, that was rude, embarrassing and disappointing. As a makeup artist, I spend a huge part of my life in hotels, traveling for work, or getting a bride ready for her big day, or a client for an event. Sometimes we need a safe space to do makeup and hair for a photoshoot, just for a few hours, hence why we booked the room in the first place. Why, is irrelevant! In this case, the photographer booked the room, for our lovely couple to get ready for their photoshoot. We arrived, checked in, went into the room, waiting for them to arrive. When the couple arrived, they were told, that only two people were allowed in the room. In this case we suggested if the bride could come into the room with me, while the photographer waits outside with the groom. The answer was, absolutely not! The receptionist completely refused to let them into our room, upgrade or swap, let them book an extra room, let us speak with the manager, refund us. We even asked her to come and check on us. Nothing! She completely denied any access or any comments, saying it's their policy to not allow more than two people into one room. It was no mention of that when we checked in. In my whole life I have never, ever heard of such policy. As a guest I have never experienced such service! We honestly felt robbed and targeted, and we don't understand why. To say she ruined our day is an understatement. This is how The Portico Hotel conducts themselves as a business, rubbing their clients, refusing to provide a service for which we paid, literally kicking their clients out, refusing a refund, showing no understanding or respect towards...

First of all, I want to note the location. 5 minutes walk from Victoria coach station. The staff was friendly, they explained everything in detail and helped with any questions that arose. There was no iron or ironing board in the room, when I asked for it, it was delivered to me after 2 minutes. Which was very pleasing. The room itself is clean, there was everything you need in the room. The room had a window that could be opened, air conditioning, Wi-Fi, tea and coffee, a safe. The beds are clean, it was comfortable to sleep, I didn't hear any noise. The view from the window was not pleasing, but we booked for one night so it didn't matter. There was garbage in one of the bedside tables. In the evening, when we returned to the hotel, we ordered cocktails and drank them in the lobby. The choice is not large, but it was tasty and not expensive. And the staff is very pleasant. When we checked in, we paid for breakfast. 10 pounds per person. We did not regret it. Tea, coffee, pastries, cereals, toast, cheeses, sausage, fruits, juices. Pretty good for breakfast. Overall, we were satisfied.

I stayed here for 1 night and booked a Deluxe Double Room. The room I initially got was in the basement. In front of the window there was loud ventilation and I could not imagine myself being able to sleep because of the noise. I asked reception to change my room, they didn't speak much but gave me a different one. The view from the window in the new room was not much better but at least no loud noise coming from outside. However, I could hear people from other rooms so guess the soundproofing in this hotel is poorly in general. Small, dark, cramped rooms. At 7 am fire alarm was going off in my room very loud for no reason, that woke me up. Bathrooms are lovely, but the shower head was damaged and you cannot adjust the height thereof. No iron in room. Some wallpaper peeling off the walls. Some people in the reviews reported bed bugs that I read during my stay but I couldn't find any luckily. Location is nice though. Wouldn't return.
