On arriving we were waiting a good few minutes before we were acknowledged and it was virtually empty although in fairness, there did appear to be only one one person working. I rarely go out to eat, so this was a real treat for me and I'd been looking forward to the Apple and Almond Dutch Pancakes whilst my friend ordered the Banana and Marshmallow Buttermilk Sweet Pancakes. Firstly, my friend was disappointed but the small amount of chocolate sauce. There was very little between the pancakes which were very rubbery. The server was very helpful and immediately brought some more to the table. The thing I was most looking forward to was the almond paste in my order but there was none - not even the merest hint of it. It was like a giant Yorkshire Pudding with apple sauce, blueberries and flaked almonds but no almond paste whatsoever. Again, the server was very lovely and went to speak to the kitchen to see if they could maybe do a little pot of it which I said would be fine but when she returned she said it wasn't something they could do as it's added to the pancake during cooking so I've no idea what the hell happened but it was as absent as a Tory Cabinet Ministers WhatsApp history. Maybe they forgot, maybe they ran out, maybe it was a different chef who wasn't sure of the menu, either way it was a huge disappointment. They offered to replace my order with something else so I asked for 2 American style Buttermilk pancakes with maple syrup and sauce. The same as my friends, the pancakes were rubbery and honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if they were microwaved. The chocolate sauce was cold and tasted terrible - like cocoa powder with water - no sweetness to it whatsoever. Both the chocolate sauce and the maple syrup came in what I'd estimate to be 50ml pots which whilst being adequate for 2 pancakes, cost £2.50 for each which was a ridiculous case of overpricing. When the bill cam I was told that they hadn't charged for my original pancakes - which I wouldn't expect as I returned them - and that they'd comp my cup of tea however the 2 pancakes with the maple syrup and chocolate sauce was £10 in total which was more than the price on the menu and we were also charged full price for my friends cocktail even though it was happy hour although they did amend that. I have no complaints with the server - in fact, given the amount of issues, I found her relentlessly cheerful and polite when it must have been a nightmare for her. I sensed that this was possibly something that she was not unfamiliar with though. All in all, one of my worst ever dining experiences but top marks to the team member who couldn't...

Read moreA Disappointing Journey for Pancake Enthusiasts.
As a group of vegan enthusiasts, we made a special trip to Where The Pancakes Are with high expectations. Our anticipation was built around the prospect of enjoying their vegan pancakes, something we had heard much about but had yet to experience ourselves.
After settling in and placing our orders, we were stunned to hear from the waitress that only enough vegan batter remained for one single pancake. And this, mind you, at 11 am, long before the restaurant was nearing its closing time.
With most of us being vegan, this shortage left us with no option but to walk away without a meal. The lack of concern or any attempt to make amends for this significant oversight only added to our disappointment. A sincere apology or a simple gesture of goodwill might have softened the blow, but alas, we were left with a sense of indifference from the establishment.
The scenario presented seemed almost as though we were expected to shift our preferences and accept non-vegan options. For us, that was not an alternative we could consider.
In the hospitality industry, preparedness for various dietary preferences, especially when prominently featured on the menu, is a cornerstone of customer satisfaction. Sadly, Where The Pancakes Are fell short of this standard on our visit.
Our journey, filled with anticipation, ended in frustration. While we understand that mistakes happen, it's how they are handled that often makes the lasting impression. In this instance, the lack of empathy and a simple gesture of accommodation left us feeling undervalued and overlooked.
This experience serves as a lesson not only to us, as customers, but perhaps to the restaurant as well. It's a reminder that attention to detail, preparation, and genuine customer care can make or break a dining experience. We left with empty stomachs and a sense of lost opportunity, hoping that no other patrons will have to face the same...
