A go to Italian in Croydon - Ponte Nuovo I've been to Ponte Nuovo in Croydon quite a few times now. My family and I were invited to a 100th and 90th birthday celebration this past year (2024). I've met my school friends there and had quite a few family lunches. I recommended the restaurant to my Mother's friend to celebrate her 90th Birthday after we had been to the 100th birthday luncheon at the start of the year. I was initially nervous recommending the restaurant, in case it did not meet her or her guests' expectations. My mother's friend was very worried about hosting a birthday luncheon for various reasons, but she now looks back with only fond and wonderful memories of the 90th birthday celebration she had there. The restaurant delivered in spades! She had a fantastic time and her guests LOVED the food. The decor is very modern and the food is fantastic. The portions are very generous and the food is cooked to perfection. We are always absolutely stuffed, when we leave the restaurant. The Manager recognises our family now and always greets us warmly. We were a little cheeky when we last visited the restaurant. We asked for a prawn starter which wasn't on the menu. We had it on another occasion and they kindly cooked it for again us. It was delicious. I'm not sure we needed it as we were so full after the main course, but we managed to fit in a dessert too. It is a really great place for celebrations, to spend quality time with friends or family over a wonderful meal. We love this restaurant! We would not hesitate to recommend it for that special occasion.

Have eaten here two other times and my experience has been good but was disappointed this time around. Starter of beef was a little bland and pastry was cold- didn't seem like it was prepared to order. Zucchini was nice but very bland- no seasoning or sauce. We were told bread was baked in-house but was disappointed when if arrived cold and I suspect had been refrigerated. Focaccia was quite hard and cut into little pieces, would have preferred a slice. Altogether acceptable, but underwhelming. 4 cheese pizza was lovely, as was seafood pasta. Side salad had a clump of dirt in it! Reported to the manager and she explained that they order the salad in pre-washed and that they would take this up with their supplier, but was slightly dismissive when I asked to be compensated in some way for having eaten a mouthful of lettuce, tomato and dirt. In the end she provided mimosas (which were lovely) and money off the bill but had to push quite hard for this--too hard in my opinion considering the awful experience. Maybe I was asking for too much? She was appropriately apologetic, especially once I'd made a bit of a fuss. Not sure I'll be back again to be honest- certainly not in a hurry. Mainly because first reaction to unlucky, bad experience was not as accommodating as I'd have hoped and the starters weren't amazing. Also because there are so many other restaurants in the vicinity.

Great Italian restaurant in Croydon!! My Aunty took me here for Sunday dinner and we really had a great evening. Really nice restaurant with great interior decor. The staff were really nice and friendly and very accommodating. They really made sure we were comfortable and enjoyed our evening. For starters I went for the prawn cocktail - nice large portion for a starter. It was a bit bland but after adding some salt and pepper it tasted really good. My Aunty had the garlic bread with cheese, which was really good with nice cheese pull. Would definitely recommend getting the garlic bread. My aunty went for the Ravioli Ricotta for her main. She always goes for this and really enjoyed it and said it was very tasty. I went for the lamb Sunday roast. It was really nice and came with all the trimmings and again a very large portion, but unfortunately it arrived to the table cold so I had to ask them to warm it up for me. Which they did with no problems but by time they brought it back to the table my aunty had nearly finished her meal. Next time I will definitely go for one of their Italian dishes instead. For dessert we had Tiramisu which was really good. We had a bottle of wine, which was really good too! 🥂 Overall a great experience and I Would definitely visit here again😀

This will be my last visit! NEVER AGAIN! I've had to change my feedback from 5* star!

I WAS SICK FROM THEIR SALMON BOTH ME, MY SON & HUSBAND HAD DIAHREA! MY DAUGHTER DIDNT EAT ANY AND SHE WAS FINE.

Unfortunately service and food standards have gone downhill! Ponto Nuevo got waaay to comfortable with us being regular customers and fell short in providing good service and food. For that you have lost 4 lovely customers.

We ordered 2 Lasagne, 1 pizza and a salmon and mash for myself. With 4 pina colada, water, chips and pistachio dessert.

Chips was raw and undercooked, Lasagne and pizza was fine. Unfortunately I shared some of my salmon with my husband and son and we all had DIAHREA last night. My son and husband only had a little so they weren't as bad, but I was more ill with really bad stomach ache as i ate the majority. IT SEEMS THE SALMON MAY HAVE BEEN OFF!

Before we left we asked the main manager to place my daughters Lasagne in a container (which was like a quarter left) and my sons pizza slices. He later came back with my sons pizza in a crumpled looking foil paper and threw away the Lasagne.

After bringing this to his attention he told us that we should have told him and said there was nothing he can do. (WE TOLD HIM TWICE BUT HE DID WHAT HE WANTED)

I guess he later saw that we weren't happy and asked to have another made for her.

To my disgust he piled all our dirty plates ontop of one another along with the food that we were meant to take home. This was gross because your meant to take those plates away first and not mix them with all the other dirty plates, that was not right!

I threw away my daughters Lasagne and sons pizza slices in the bin when we got home.

Why would you not provide us with suitable containers, we're not animals!!??

To be honest this place is a rip off, we've only ever spent under £100 ONCE. Our bills have always been £150 £200 etc Last night we spent £130+

Also I decided to have roasted tomatoes instead of spinach and was charged £5 for 2 tomato halves. I've never really bothered about the cost but when the bad service started to surface... I PAYED ATTENTION!

How can you charge £11 service charge and toss my food away!!?? The pizza and the new Lasagne they made went straight in the bin. We never touched it.

This wasn't the first time we recieved repulsive service from these people.

Not to ALSO mention... there was a birthday celebration and the manager placed a torch on our table until the were finished singing.

Why would you do that, as if we weren't there!!! That was disrespectful why not place the torch on THEIR table.

OUR VISIT PRIOR TO THIS ONE. The clumsy waiter turned over or 2 of our virgin pina colada all over the area we were sitting.

Everyone came with mops and buckets. My son and daughter had to get up from their seat and squeeze next to me and my husband untill they were finished with their janitorial duties.

We found that quite embarrassing as it was drawing attention to our table. They almost acted as if we were the ones who spilled the drinks with little to no apology.

This is not the way you handle customers. You should have seated us elsewhere instead of everyone circling our table with a mops and buckets and kitchen rolls everywhere. You should have given complementary drinks and reduced our bill. Not to mention when our food came it was reduced by half... my daughter and I got the linguine with prawns and in 5 twirls of our fork it was done, bare in mind LINGUINE cost £19! And this is something we always order so we knew we were being bamboozled out of our money!

AND THE VISIT BEFORE THIS LAST ONE WAS AN ORDER OVER THE PHONE AND A COLLECTION IN PERSON.

THIS TIME LINGUINE AMOUNT WAS FINE IN PORTION BUT THE PRAWNS WERE RICULOUSLY TOUGH! I'M NOT SURE WHAT HAPPENED BUT IT SEEMED MAYBE THEY GAVE US REHEATED OR RECOOKED PRAWNS, BECAUSE IVE NEVER HAD PRAWNS THAT TOUGH BEFORE.

THE DAMAGE WAS DONE FROM THE LAST 2 VISITS, THIS WAS THE LAST STRAW! NEVER AGAIN.

IN A SPLIT SECOND YOU LOST 4 CUSTOMERS BECAUSE YOU THOUGHT WE WOULD...

Listed as the top Italian restaurant in Croydon and being Italian myself, I wanted to try it, despite above average prices for the area. I was welcomed by 3 friendly, yet professional and accommodating staff. Ambience and background Italian music absolutely pleasant. I ordered home made bread and olive oil with balsamic vinegar, very nice. Pasta ragù: spaghetti (didn't want to change the past type on the menu with classic egg tagliatelle or pappardelle or any short pasta, not to alter the chef's own recipe: it was precooked - a big no no - even though the restaurant was nearly empty (4 tables only, one already paid) and I was served in less than 5 minutes. Ragù sauce nice though; shame it was watered down a little as the pasta wasn't drained properly. I tasted it and left it mainly for the precooked, unusually textured pasta. The waiter saw the plate still full and immediately offered to change it. The Assistant Manager came to apologize, explained that the head chef was on holiday and offered a freshly express cooked pasta from scratch, penne i/o spaghetti as I was offered to choose. Very good reaction to feedback indeed. It was lovely and well cooked. Next up, lamb shank, quite large according to the nice waiter who took my order. It arrived average size, a lamb is a lamb after all, extremely tender though, quite tasty with just a hint of overcooked sauce aftertaste but not quite burned, however overall nice, with roughly 60% of the dish made up by sauce, potatoes and carrots.

To finish, cheese board which was well presented and well assembled with a great selection, not easy to match around Croydon for sure!

Bottom line for me is: if there is a problem, do say so immediately and give a chance to rectify issues instead of moaning afterwards, value your experience according to the efforts made and the final result to put things right. Il Ponte did so, and in a commendable manner. Kudos to Riccardo the assistant Manager who at the table handled it all himself....

We decided to call in last Sunday st Patrick's day , hoping for 1,2, Irish playlists offered to hear unfortunately we were unlucky Andre was polite to offer us a playlist , his boss refused . Well service okish we ordered 2 roast beef meals , after receiving our meals , they forgot roast potatoes, classical ingredient , we had a small portion of broccoli, cauliflower, Very ! Stringy ! Green beans ! Parsnips and carrots , would tasted Delicious if it was Hot ,unfortunately not !

Why wasent there jugs of water available on the table alternatively why would we need to request water ,another vital ingredient when dining out , to add to injury ,we requested twice for the dessert menu ,after the waiters forgot about us again .

We gave up ,chose Irish coffees , looking forward to our traditional Irish coffees may i add on St Patrick's day

We were really disappointed with the taste , they gave us cheap whiskey sugar tasted like sweetners over all the Irish coffee never had the Irish whiskey tastes .

Now after receiving the bill , woww ! It was nearly £80 , we bought 2 roast beef meals ,1 fresh mint tea , 1 glass of house pinot grigio, 2 Irish coffees Forgot to mention 2 watery flavoured minestrone soups with fresh bread .

The staff already took £7.95 for gratuity fees before we decided how much or if we were about to tip them . I asked to have gratuity fees removed , the bill still costs £80

We were expecting to pay around £60 same costs last year on mother's day .

I'm not sure if I'll be visiting there again

Shame actually I've always dined here on birthdays and various occasions.

Pointe Nouvo You have really let us down this time

So disappointed with you...
