I looked up nice places to eat breakfast in Putney, and this cafe came up and sounded quite nice. We arrived and were nicely greeted and served with some very nice coffee very well made by the barrister. It all started to go wrong as the food arrived. I ordered the full breakfast which included haggis and black pudding, sounded delicious. The eggs were cold, which indicates bad kitchen management as they had obviously been sat on a cold plate for too long. Even if they were warm, much like the haggis, black pudding and beans they were such poor quality I’m not sure it would have made a difference. My daughter ordered the American pancakes with maple syrup and bacon, one of the pancakes was burnt black on one side, an obvious kitchen mistake, it happens, however when a mistake is made surely you bin it and start again so as to not provide an infirior product. I’m our case it was covered up and served. In my eyes this is just a poor approach to a service that provides food, this worried me, latter I found out this was not unfounded. My daughter decided not to eat her breakfast, and anyone who knows her she’s not what one would call fussy. My wife enjoyed her eggs royale other than the fact it was served on bread that should have been served with a chainsaw. Fortunately I had been given a slice of untoasted sourdough? with my beans which I was able to give her so she had something to eat it with. When we raised this with the guy from the cafe he assured me that it was not in fact stale as we thought as he had seen it baked so he refused to take the comment on board. Sadly he missed the actual point that if it wasn’t stale then it was just poor bread that was nearly impossible to cut. Due to these issues we were offered free cake and drinks(random) and completely inappropriate considering we had just eaten substandard food and paid for drinks. Two adults and a child £35 for generally poor food and at best mixed which I find more worrying as it suggests that the difference between good and unacceptable is not known. To confirm my fears around an hour later half way round a crazy golf course I buckled over in pain and I fortunately made it to the toilet before the world fell out my rear end. Don’t think we...
Read moreNot a nice experience. I visited this place with my friend and when we entered we got approached by a person asking what do we need. When we replied that we would like to get breakfast this person told us that we will have to go somewhere else because they have some program going on soon in the church. I looked around and the place was filled with people eating and drinking. We asked if we can join for the service and were told it’s not possible. Not sure why because it was a normal Sunday service but we then apologised and asked if we can get a coffee to go. This person very annoyingly replied to go across the street to some coffee shop if we want a coffee and took us to the main door. Never understood the situation but didn’t want to create any drama in such a lovely place that was filled with people enjoying their Sunday morning. But definitely won’t come...
Read moreI am a regular here and really rate the owner and his great menu and food. However, today I came in for a simple order: Two poached eggs on a slice of sourdough with some wilted spinach. It took nearly 30 mins to arrive when the cafe wasn’t busy. The toast was dry and unbuttered (when it had been on a previous occasion) and it cost me £9. The rest of the meal was fine. The quality of food and service are usually fine, so I was disappointed today. I know I have to pay more now due to inflation but it’s frustrating when service is slow and the delay is not acknowledged by the server. I felt...
