A fixture on the Putney drinks scene for some time, Tequila Mockingbird has recently spread its’ wings to Clapham where a second branch as recently opened. We popped into their original bar in Putney, just a short walk from the rail station by the river to try some of their concoctions.
Tequila Mockingbird do all the classics, with lots of their own creative concoctions. With happy hour on from 5-9 pm DAILY (yes!) it would be rude to not pop in and try something a little different. We started with the bartenders own creation Almond Stag (£8.50) with jager, amaretto, passion fruit puree and a drizzle of Shiraz. It was a little sweeter than we thought but the warmth of amaretto balanced it nicely and it was great to try and unusual ingredient combo!
We moved on to the Bakewell (£9) which was almondy sweet as promised by the name. It had a serious hint of the famous cake to it, very satisfying. The watermelon cooler (£9) seemed a good choice with the perfect weather we have been having. It tasted a little more alcoholic than I expected which I liked! We have all had fruity cocktails that are all sugar and no substance but this held back from an overpowering watermelon flavour. It was a slow and satisfying drink.
The margarita menu offers a range of specials alongside their classic margarita. We tried the mango & chilli margarita (£9) a gorgeous sunset colour and a chilli red rim made for a pretty little drink. The chilli rim is no joke, it is a little fiery and the cocktail itself has a definite heat and kick from that chilli! The sweetness of the mango offset the heat so well and we enjoyed this little number.
Last up for us was the Tequila Mockingbird take on the bar favourite, the zombie. Called the Mockingbird Punch it is their most expensive cocktail but still a reasonable £10. It is a secret recipe with several types of alcohol being thrown in as I watched the bartenders set it alight. They clearly enjoy their job and adding some theatre to your orders! This was definitely a strong drink but actually much more drinkable than other zombies I have had in other bars. We loved the flaming passion fruit – perfect to shot if you are feeling brave (blow it out first!) or just mix in and enjoy.
Tequila Mockingbird bar in Putney offers a happy hour that is hard to rival. With 3 floors it has plenty of space to sit and catch up with friends and there is a downstairs basement for dancing later. The neon lights and dark corners make for an atmospheric space on the main floor or pop upstairs for a bigger, lighter space and comfy leather sofas. The location is great, right on the river and the Clapham branch is nice and central too. We loved popping in and would recommend it for reasonably priced cocktails, a great happy hour and DJ &...
Read moreFirst time at the new location In Putney. A star venue shame about security... The night started with myself and friend witnessing a male security mis handling a women at the entrance, after speaking to other staff about our concerns we was approached by the mentioned security asking what we said, in a manor which felt intimating. My friend and I then was enjoying our night and had a drink thrown at us and surprisingly the above mentioned security was behind us and then approached us asking of there was a problem, obviously trying to get a reaction as it was blatently him. I told another member of staff who removed him from the downstairs area we was in. Then closing time came, I was alone with my friend outside smoking, the security guard approached me and asked me if I had a problem, I said no and asked him to remove himself from my presence, he then told me I was blocking him with my leg then he bashed my leg his own very aggressively.
Absolutely disgusting that he was allowed to seek me out and allowed in close proximity after numerous complaints about him throughout the night. Police have been notified and this will be followed up. Discusting behaviour from someone who is in charge of the safety of others. Sid at the bar is a great bartender and made the wait at the...

We arrived only to find we was the only ones dressed appropriately Smart and that everyone was in jean shorts joggers hoodie and everyone had trainers on. Music was erratic .... meaning very mixed. David bowe one min Craig David next. Rubbish DJ . I had fun seeing me dear friends of course they made my night.. but TM u disappointed me 2/5 for Effort.
