I can't understand the high ratings. We decided to try here tonight due to the ratings. It was average at best. Food was quite oily. The worst part was the dhal makhani. It literally had half a centimetre of oil on top. Never seen anything like that in all the curries I've had anywhere. Maybe we just picked a bad night but doesn't endear us to want to try again.
Edit: I'm updating because of the extremely patronising response from the restaurant. We actually decided to try this restaurant partially due to the reviews, partially due to being so close to home (3min walk) and partially because they do dhal makhani (I really like dhal makhani and can be a deciding factor for me). Now this patronising reply decided to make out that I have no idea and had probably never eaten Indian takeaway before. Firstly, I've had a lot of dhal makhani as takeaway that has not had this Extreme layer of oil on top. Secondly, we did stir this a lot and it would just settle straight back to what you saw in the pictures. Thirdly, the usual flavours were not there, it was just oil. I was just prepared to write it off as an off night especially being a Monday, but their response was pretty poor. I recommend that next time they just leave it with the first part of saying sorry and this is not usual for us, instead of trying to blame user error Very...

I recently had lunch at Masala Odyssey in Putney, and it was a fantastic experience. From the moment I walked in, the warm and welcoming atmosphere set the tone for a great meal. The restaurant has a modern yet cozy décor, with a touch of Indian heritage in its design.
The menu offers a great selection of traditional and contemporary Indian dishes, catering to both vegetarians and meat lovers. I started with the Pani Puri, which was crisp and full of flavor, followed by the Lamb Rogan Josh, which was cooked to perfection with tender meat and a beautifully spiced sauce. The Garlic Naan was fresh and fluffy, perfect for soaking up the rich curries.
The service was friendly and attentive, with staff happy to offer recommendations. The food arrived promptly, and everything was well-presented. The portion sizes were generous, making it excellent value for money.
If you're looking for an authentic Indian lunch experience in Putney, Masala Odyssey is a must-visit. Highly recommended for its delicious food, great service, and welcoming...
Read moreMy review needs to be caveated that i walked off the street for a take away and had a 30 minute bus trip back to Kingston.
I am sorry to leave a negative review, but hopefully this is also constructive.
I ordered:
Popadoms - nice and crispy. 6/10 Onion Bjajis - 5/10. Probably deserves higher but had lost crispness in their plastic container. Chicken curry - 4/10 - I asked if this curry was what the chef’s all eat, which he confirmed. The curry was ok, lacked any depth of flavour, and I was disappointed. Spice level was not medium that I requested. Chicken Tikka Main - 4/10 - chicken was ok but lacked any taste of marinade and did not come with any fried onions or peppers. Or, more disappointingly with a side salad; perhaps I should have checked, but I thought that was standard. Chicken Korma - 4/10- chicken was bland. See comments above for the lack of flavour. Naan bread (garlic) - not like any Naan I have had in all my years of eating curry, more like a garlic bread. Sag aalo- taste was really poor, as if the spinach had not had the excess water...
