If you’re wanting to enjoy both good food and service from this Italian, I suggest you visit the St.Christophers Place branch, as the Waterloo location is lacking in standard.
Having been visiting and recommending the St.Christophers branch for three years plus, we’ve experienced high standards and consistency in both food and service, which has kept us coming back.
But unfortunately upon visiting the Waterloo branch for the first time on 27/12/18, we were met with hostility from a female waitress as well as receiving a main course in which had vital ingredients missing (Taglita De Manzo) - No balsamic dressing, no Parmesan. It’s understandable around the Christmas period to an extent, but the fact this was not communicated by the waitress as well as being replied to with utter sarcasm as to why what was described on the menu was not what was served to me at my table was beyond me.
Due to not being the usual type to complain and after dismissing the experience as a one off, we visited the Waterloo branch again the evening of 04/02/19, and when ordering the same main again, the steak was cooked incorrectly due to the fact the waitress took the order incorrectly. The steak was sent back to be cooked correctly leaving the rest of the meal cold.
It seems a new manager has been appointed with his first day being the date of our second visit. He did offer a complimentary drink, although politely declined was well appreciated. I hope he is able to turn this place around as it is a long way away from the standards set by its fellow branch at...
Read moreDuring my recent visit to Olivelli, I had the pleasure of experiencing their lamb stew, a dish that truly embodies the essence of comfort food with a sophisticated twist.
The ambiance of the restaurant was warm and inviting, with soft lighting and tasteful decor that set the stage for an enjoyable dining experience. The staff was attentive and knowledgeable, enhancing the overall atmosphere of hospitality.
The lamb stew itself was a culinary delight. The lamb was perfectly tender, with each piece practically melting in my mouth. The richness of the meat was complemented by a robust, well-seasoned broth that was both hearty and flavorful. The stew featured a harmonious blend of root vegetables, including carrots and potatoes, which added a delightful texture and a subtle sweetness that balanced the savory elements of the dish.
What stood out most was the depth of flavor achieved through slow cooking and careful seasoning. Hints of rosemary and thyme elevated the dish, imparting a fragrant aroma that lingered with every bite. The use of high-quality ingredients was evident, and the dish was beautifully presented, garnished with fresh herbs that added a touch of color and freshness.
In conclusion, Olivelli’s lamb stew was a memorable dish that showcased the restaurant’s commitment to excellence. It is a perfect choice for anyone seeking a comforting, yet refined meal. I look forward to returning and exploring more of their thoughtfully...
Read moreHad the antipasto vegetariano which was a lot for a starter (perfect as a main for lunch). Nice to taste different flavours. Fiori di Zucca for the main, which was wonderful and the pasta so good - all ingredients really fresh. But glad I had the starter because the mains aren't generous portions (or perhaps I have a healthy appetite). The wine (Corvo Salaparuta) was amazing! Service was quick but no particular finesse or extra attention, and to be honest, I prefer it that way. Friendly staff also. I give it 4 stars because they need to spruce up the toilets and area just outside; to get to the toilets you walk right passed the kitchen counter where the cooks place the dished up plates, all a bit cramped with staff walking around. You end up feeling like you're in the way. They need to tidy that area up a bit and give the toilets a bit of a spark. We shared the bill by 5 of us, starter/main/pudding as well as 2 wine bottles and 2 glasses of red, £43 each inc service charge. Not too bad. Wine was a bit pricey for the type of restaurant but it is imported from Sicily so it's understandable. The food is reasonably priced. Will definitely return here and try others things...
