Update today (18/5/22) after 2 months: I had the kofte kebab again and this time the couscous was cooked to perfection and fluffy when forked. The appetiser of humus, olives and Anatolian bread is always very tasty. So 5* for the food so the kitchen has made good. Unfortunately, the service was surly and inattentive and had to chase for attention to get the pepper sauce accompaniment. It was a quiet time as sat down at 1200hrs. So I’ll leave the overall rating at 4* with a hope that improves but on that shan’t rush back. Original review: Had the Sahan fixed price menu before the theatre yesterday ( 9/3/22) with a glass of the Turkish red wine with a grand total of £24.98 including 12.5% service which is a very reasonable deal for the overall quality and quantity of the meal. The service was prompt and friendly and I particularly liked the humus and mixed olives with the lovely Turkish bread provided gratis at the start. Quite frankly with this, a starter and a main there is no room for a sweet! I chose the Tabboulleh as a starter and the Kofte kebab with couscous and an onion and lettuce salad with the Tas optional and delicious hot pepper sauce- 2 spoons is a must! The only let down was that the couscous was slightly soggy and coagulated and although edible it was not like the normal fluffy condition that should be served and most likely overcooked (it is a pasta after all). For this point only I have scored 4 stars as at the time there were very few covers for the kitchen, otherwise it would have been a five as it detracted from my full enjoyment. I attended at 1210 and there were only a few tables occupied and had a choice but it quickly filled up within the hour I was there and I can understand the popularity in that location. I have no quibble in returning to Tas for an expectant 5!

We visited today, on a hot Saturday afternoon and the restaurant was quiet. To set a baseline, my wife's side of the family are Lebanese, so we have a good understanding and expectation of Mediterranean food. We ordered the set meal each; drink, 2 mezes and a main at £33.50pp With the meze, the server also brought bread and olives to the table. All good so far. However, the main was just beyond disappointing. I ordered a mixed grill and my wife and mother in law lamb kofta. Everything was dry, the salad was dry, the cous cous ws dry and worst, being a meat lover was the meat was very dry. Partially, I think because the kofta mince was ground too finely and dries during the grilling. This was raised to the server whose solution was to add some sauce. In the end we left the mains and were given a 25% discount. However, given that we left our mains and the server agreed with us, I don't think the discount is reflective. We still paid £87 for a meal we didn't eat. An Iceland frozen donar kebab microwave meal would have been a more enjoyable option. You are simply paying for the location. I won't go back and I strongly wouldn't recommend the eaterie to others

Bang average at a price. It's central Waterloo and I get that. Prices are likely to be at a premium but I was expecting more after a friend recommended this place. It started well with olives and bread with a dip, really nice. Beer wasn't cold (1st world problem I know but let's be honest it makes a difference). Main was the mixed grill, a favourite since 1999 according to the menu. It lacked quality meat and contained lots of bread. I wasn't sure about the sauce either. For a place I sought out it will be easily forgotten. Before you ask, in a typically British way I didn't mention this to the staff who were all nice (£10 quid service charge btw). Overall I expected more.

This is probably one of the worst customer service and worst Turkish food experiences I have witnessed from a restaurant. Arrived here with work colleagues today for lunch with a booking made for 20 people. When we arrived the manager was serving us. He was so rude as we entered. The tables we sat on had the expensive set menus on them. When we requested for the other set menu which was cheaper (as we had seen the menus online in advance), he refused to provide them until a colleague of mine intervened and found the menus and distributed them to us. Anyway, continuing on from this, he was very rude in taking our orders and when taking dishes from us he kept smashing the plates around.

Furthermore, having studied Turkish for the past three years and having visited many different Turkish restaurants, I am well accustomed to the concept of Turkish hospitality. They usually provide complimentary freshly cooked bread but the bread that was provided was old and stale. Our tables were close enough to the kitchen to witness that they were left to sit on a tray, allowing it to get exposed to the air, causing it to get cold and hard.

Moving onto my mains, the kebab that I ordered was dry and over-cooked. The salad seemed as though it had been prepared days in advance. This was the complete opposite experience I had encountered when visiting the other Tas branch in London Bridge over the busy period during Christmas. The London Bridge Tas had freshly prepared food and the staff were friendly.

My advice is there are plenty of much better Turkish restaurants in and around London. I will be avoiding this branch of Tas (The Cut) at all costs despite its location being very close to my office. If I do decide to visit Tas, I would rather go to the London Bridge one instead, which is only a 20 mins walk away from this one as the food was better and the service was of a higher standard. Had I not been with work colleagues and instead with family or friends, there is no way I would have considered even paying for the service charge.

Having spoken to my colleagues afterwards, they shared very similar sentiments on the overall experience. There is no reason for this level of rudeness and the poor...

Went here for a family meal after a day in Southbank. Location wise, it is right opposite Southwark Station and also a short walk from Waterloo.

Staff are very friendly and attentive, service was good. Venue is nice and clean, so thumbs up here. However, no kids menu (not the end of the world but for information). Price/Value was ok, considering in Waterloo... but I have some comments.

If you are looking for an "authentic" Turkish/Mediterranean restaurant experience, then I would not recommend. Food presentation and quality is 'good', but if you're looking for a westernized interpretation then you're ok.

Compared to a typical independent Turkish/Mediterranean restaurant, the portions are much, MUCH smaller. For example, a 'Kofte' dish almost always comes with 2 skewers of lamb mince. Here, they provide you with just 1 (and it cost more). Similarly, the Mixed Grill is usually a large platter with multiple meat options - to the point you cannot normally finish (as it usually serves 2). Again, this isn't the case here (and it cost more). The portion size was too small to be considered a 'main' dish, with very little variety. Normally, you also get the option of Rice, Fries, or Flat Bread (all with salad). Sadly, this wasn't the case either. There are not sharing starters, or main platter options either. Don't get me wrong, the food was nice. The lamb mince and lentil soup was lovely, and my daughter enjoyed the Halloumi. Just the portions really let it down

What became very very apparent is that Tas is (or has become) a very typical franchise type establishment catering for a very western palate, which was apparent from the demographic of the diners. Think of it like a Turkish version of Pizza Express or Zizi's. There is nothing wrong with that by the way. I love Pizza Express - but I wouldn't call the feeling/experience 'authentic'. Perhaps this is the demographic they are targeting, and heh - that's ok too... Was just saddened I suppose as I went with parents and was expecting a little bit more of a traditional food experience.

I think if they fix the portions and also try and be less "contemporary", with the presentation then they would...

I booked this restaurant for my graduation lunch as it was near the hall, and I must say I left the place very disappointed by both the service and the food. First of all, the food is very expensive here and they give out tiny portions. We ordered few plates to share due to us being used to going to Turkish restaurants in London and the portions being usually generous. I have witnessed tiny portions in a “Turkish” restaurant for the first time ever, for incredibly high prices considering they are not even fully edible. The plates were starting from 16 pounds each and they were an absolute disgrace, 4 little cubes of meat with a little bit of rice. As I’ve mentioned above, I’ve been to many Turkish restaurants and they always serve very generous portions as it’s part of their tradition and the food is also usually seasoned very well. This place is clearly not authentic and they are just scamming people. The food was incredibly unseasoned (we had to ask for salt and pepper) which is not normal for Turkish food. The manager was very rude when we tried to explain to them how unhappy we were with the food and the portion sizes, and claimed that we were trying to “bargain”, when in reality we were just so unhappy with the food that it just did not make sense for us to pay 140 pounds. We literally filled our stomachs with bread, and everyone left starving. Very unwilling to order more as the food wasn’t even good. He then went ahead and proposed making us more food and giving us desserts for free, which did not make any sense as that was not what we asked for and he was clearly not even making an effort to understand our point. Furthermore, I would not want to eat unseasoned meat and rice even for free. He failed to understand that we asked for a percentage of the bill to be taken off due to the collective disappointment rather than “bargaining” as he mentioned. This is something that is done in other restaurants too and it’s totally normal. I’ve spent much more in other places for food, which was at least good, however this was not...
