Came here with my family on a lovely Sunday afternoon when it wasn't busy at all. We can be quite particular with our food but we ended up choosing a platter for 4. We wanted to swap out one of the cold meze starters but it wasn't possible for whatever reason. We just topped it up with the dolma vine leaves anyway and called it a day. This made the order super easy as we had enough for a 5th person and had all our needs sorted. All we needed was beverages on top, which is where I ordered a mango juice and a jug of water for the table. The mango juice was nice and the meal itself was lovely. While I'd like to swap out a few lamb chops for some more shish kebabs, it hit the spot for sure. The shish kebabs could have also had a super light sprinkle of sumac to give a slight twist on the flavour too. I've not rated it higher because the downstairs is in dire need of modernisation. The light flickering could be an issue for anyone who suffers from light triggered seizures. The floor to the toilet was soaked and was dangerously slippery too - then you finally get to a very dated toilet facility that doesn't make use of the space very well - I'm thinking potentially adding some decor like upstairs and maybe even some plants. The cleaner floor would reassure me that these toilets are cleaned regularly too, which I don't really have. While I say this, I don't think it's any reflection on the staff, who were fantastic the whole time and were really personable. I just think this place needs a slight reinvestment before the next 12-24 months start looking even more dated for a place that performs so well in every other aspect. I wish for great things for this spot so we can come back and re-evaluate this review...
Read moreHi, always appears busy, especially with groups/families at weekends, and haven't been for a while so gave a try with two ex work colleagues on an early Sunday evening. Prices we thought were a bit on the high side for East Greenwich, which is still just off the main tourist routes, but the Turkish bread and dips were a welcome surprise addition. The mixed lamb/chicken kebabs enjoyed by 2, sizeable tasty meat, rice, but lacked a bit in spice and other interest on the plate (felt a bit too much like something you could whack up at home for a filling midweek meal) The 'Veggie' with us had a vegetarian Moussaka which she said was enjoyable. Coffees to follow, no desserts or drinks ordered -only tap water as we were looking for an inexpensive meal out, which came in pretty small glasses with no jug offered and the impression they would rather have sold you some alcohol or bottled water (pretty standard coffees wherever you go nowadays, didn't try the Turkish which i have before and enjoyed here) So, £16-£17 pp for a main course,bread/dips and coffee. TBH I have enjoyed meals more in central Greenwich for less. But if you are a meat and Turkish food lover you would probably enjoy it here. If you are a lover of spice (and keeping costs down), there are now two or three better alternatives both nearby and in central (tourist) Greenwich, IMHO. But this restaurant provides a necessary ingredient to local cuisine-we don't all enjoy exactly the same food, variety is the spice of life (in my case, maybe a...
Read moreHad lunch here today. Just me in this empty restaurant. The last time I came here was when it was owned by the original owner's about 8 years ago and the food and service was much better.
I first asked if they made kebab wraps for takeaway, the waitress said No. What a big mistake the owner's are making here, lost income. They are open for lunch and rather be empty like it was.
Is sat down and the waitress brought over some bread, chilli sauce and a yoghurt dip. I proceeded to order the mixed kebab. If it is not in some bread of sort you cannot call it a kebab. Served on a plate with chips and some veggies they called a salad is a mixed grill, crammed all on this plate. Lamb and chicken shish, lamb kofte and one lamb cutlet. The salad consisted of packet mixed leaves, grated carrot and shredded red cabbage in sun flower oil. It asked for olive oil and they brought sun flower oil and told the waitress I'm Italian and and know what olive oil is and told her to take it away. No tomatoes, cucumbers or red onions in the the salad, which should have been served separately in a small bowl. The Kofte was very bland, needed more garlic and onions and spices to enhance the flavors. Overall the meat was dry, lacked any real flavour.
You really need to look at what you are doing wrong. Out of...
