Came here to eat something pre theatre. When ordering at the bar we were told that there would be a half an hour wait on the burgers as a big booking was coming in with a pre-order. Note, we were ordering our food and they hadn't arrived yet. We ordered 2 vegan burgers and 3 small plates anyway. The small plates came and they were pretty bland. Some of the large party arrived and their burgers started coming out. I noticed two burgers go to that table and then go back to the kitchen - their party hadn't all arrived and I guess those were their burgers? A minute later those 2 burgers came to our table..... On the plus side we waited 15 minutes for our burgers rather than 30 minutes + . On the down side the burgers were cold as who knows how long they'd been waiting in the kitchen for the large party to arrive? What's more, at 14£ for a vegan burger and chips, they were very small and very bland. After the meal I realised I'd been over charged. £46.10 instead of £38 - they forgot to apply the 3 small plates discount and also please be aware they add a 12.5% service charge, even if you order at the bar. I had to negotitate with the bar manager to get a refund - he told me the refund would be £3 something? How do you work that out? He refunded me £6 in the end. Terrible food, terrible service (the waiting staff and the manager, not the bar staff) Do...
Read moreVery slow bar service. One staff member took just under 9 minutes to make 2 coffees, while 2 queues of people waited to order. 3 other staff members just standing around, but only 1 of those came over to check if any of us wanted to order... make sure you give yourself a lot of time before the show if you are planning to eat here. There were no empty tables so i only bought fries and ended up sitting on a cushion in the book corner (I arrived 50+ minutes before the 630pm show). Limited seating space, lots of very large tables for 4-6 people with 1 or 2 people at them (instead of multiple 2-4 people tables). Poorly designed. Saw quite a few people awkwardly holding their food as there was nowhere to sit, and the tables they did have were not equipped for multiple groups to share due to the round design. But it's an improvement on the 1 star I gave them 8 months ago, when they were advertising food and then told me at the bar that the menus they'd put out were for future use (refurbishments had not completed...
Read moreEvery show I've seen at The Royal Court have been of a really high standard - even shows I wouldn't say I 'enjoyed' have left a lasting impression. I'm looking forward to seeing the NTS production of 'Let The Right One In' this Christmas as an alternative to panto. The bar is spacious and is used well with singers, performers and special events where you can meet playwrights and directors. The bookshop is a small but impressive selection of new and classics texts, and watch out for their special sales to pick up some real bargains. The Royal Court also has possibly the comfiest theatre seats in their main stage space. That may seem like a relatively unimportant aspect of your theatre experience but having paid a decent amount of money at bigger theatres to then be distracted through the performance by having a numb bum...not ideal! They're lovely bucket style, and work in the lovely auditorium space. Looking forward to see what Vicky...
